News and notes from around the interweb:
- Pro-tip: head butting your flight attendant will not end well. The concerning thing here to me is that a drunk passenger was initially refused more alcohol on board but the Delta flight attendant then served him.
- The bad airline idea that just won’t die: Hong Kong ends its ban on fuel surcharges effective November 1 (HT: One Mile at a Time) Last year we caught American Airlines’ hand in the cookie jar illegally collecting fuel surcharges, no doubt we’ll start to see more revenue extracted from frequent flyers.
- JetBlue continues to punish first-class customers with open-back Grado headphones
- “Today’s jet passengers may think they have it bad, but delay and discomfort have been a part of journeys since the Mayflower”
- SkyTeam airline Saudia has a new video promoting their country’s 2030 vision and there’s a lot going on here that’s simultaneously traditional and also subversive. Women speak, there’s an apparently unaccompanied woman doing business with a man, a woman appears as a manager driving a construction project. (HT: @jonostrower)
- It may be time for Southwest Airlines to start paying to distribute their fares through third party booking sites — at least those that help customers compare total trip cost inclusive of fees.
It’s almost like they WANT you to fly Southwest. #BagsFlyFree https://t.co/qbGRfeYcRp https://t.co/lvlPRcYEYo
