The One Big Reason Not To Fly Delta To New York

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • While the new Delta One lounge may be a good reason to fly out of New York JFK’s terminal 4, this may be a pretty good reason not to fly Delta into New York JFK:

  • Did not know this:

  • Hyatt and LG develop hotel TVs with built-in Google Cast

  • The Wall Street Journal reporter who covered the Bilt – Wells Fargo deal recently concludes in an interview, “The consumer right now is making out really well on this card, really well. And I mean, for the consumer, it’s a good story.”

  • Woman charged for driving suitcase without a license in Osaka

  • On that rawdogging flights thing I don’t believe ‘men doing absolutely nothing on flights’ is an actual new trend but I believe there are people who do this because I used to ride the D.C. metro.

These people are sad. On my daily commute I’d see people just facing forward. Nobody was working. Many people weren’t listening to headphones, reading books, or even the free giveaway newspaper. They were just going through life as though they were on heroin, but without the drug’s effects. So my takeaway from the piece is that there are people who are just letting their limited time on earth (and above the earth) just slip away.

  1. Another way American is more premium at JFK. Soho and Chelsea lounges with being able to get my Uber right at the curb. That Delta operation is looking shaky to me. I don’t know how it is a premium experience taking a bus with all of the econ passengers and my luggage to a remote lot.

  2. I dont do anything on flights, I dont see anything wrong with that
I sleep and I think and I stretch
Its the brainless wannabes that pull their laptops like they are solving world hunger and also the mid level female bimbos drinking bloody mary and playing candy crash….

  3. The Port Authority issued bonds to build Airtrain. Part of the money to pay it back comes from fares.

  4. I only fly for pleasure now, so a flight to the NYC area isn’t in the cards anyway.

  5. I try to sleep on a plane and don’t use devices while flying because I’m prone to get airsick. Eating is also limited, and I rarely finish the complimentary snack.

It’s okay. It’s like practicing to exist without devices or external distractions I’m constantly bombarded with.

  6. Rawdogging flights is nothing new. Just a bunch of losers stealing David Puddy’s bits

  7. Sometimes the biggest luxury in life is to be able to sit undisturbed and do absolutely nothing

  8. A Uber/Lyft pickup lot is not a BIG deal or a reason to not fly Delta to JFK. The best route is AirTrain to Jamaica Station to catch the Long Island R/R to Manhattan or the dreaded subway to avoid road congestion. Easy peasy lemon squeezy…although I prefer a Chocolate Egg Cream.

  9. Finally a crackdown on motorized rideable luggage. The included electronics should limit speeds to the local maximum allowable without a license. I suspect that the Chinese lady will have to deal with conviction since the likelihood of conviction in Japan is so high.

  10. @Doug – Haha, the irony of someone who can sit for five hours and do nothing calling other people “brainless”.

  11. Train from JFK is a much better option in most cases than Uber/Lyft. Faster and way, way cheaper.

There are exceptions, of course. Family of four with six bags, for instance.

  12. Laughable. Don’t fly the best airline in the US because of this?

Are you an expert or a shill?

  13. Don’t fly Delta to NYC
Don’t fly Virgin Atlantic to NYC
Don’t fly Air India to NYC
Don’t fly Singapore Airlines to NYC
    Don’t fly Asiana to NYC
    Don’t fly KLM to NYC

Just because they all use T4?

  14. Gary, I don’t know if you are trolling or not, but this is one of the odder takes o have seen you write.

People who are just sitting on the metro may be thinking, medicating, relaxing, etc. Not everyone needs to be consuming media, or “working” during all hours of transit. What’s sadder to me are the self important dudes who insist they need to “work” on airplanes and trains when they are probably at their lowest productivity and would be better off recharging or relaxing.

  15. Gary- would love to see you do a deeper dive explaining AirTrain. The tweet above is shocking!

  16. Nothing wrong with zoning-out on a plane or train. I long ago passed the point of occupying every hour of the day with something “productive.” When you work “smart” you are able to accumulate enough and succeed without having to multitask 24/7.
