Two Birds Have Made A Part-Time Home Inside American Airlines Club

The Philadelphia Airport Admirals Club between the B and C concourses has two birds that have been flying through it. Staff there say they first attracted one of the birds three months ago, and the other bird showed up in early August.

Birds move fast, and can be tough to capture on video.

I asked American Airlines for their take on the situation, and a spokesperson got back to me to let me know they’re now “working with a local company to safely remove the birds.”

On the other hand, I think I like this (slightly out of context) take better:

Actually an airline lounge is a relatively good place for a bird – at least compared to striking an aircraft or flying on board one, except for when a Gulf sheikh buys tickets for all of his falcons, of course.

American Airlines has two Admirals Clubs in Philadelphia – one on the third floor between the B and C terminal, and one in terminal F. (They used to have three clubs, but the A concourse club was closed as part of a plan to become an international business class Flagship lounge.) As far as I’m aware, the F concourse club and closed ‘under construction’ lounge are currently fowl-free.

It’s the second bird that could become a problem in the B/C concourse club, though, if both stay long enough – because American Airlines only allows one carrion. Still not as bad as the old mouse in United’s club at Washington Dulles.

  1. Amazing article, personally i think we should appreciate the birds. Keeps travelers busy as they wait for their flights.
I can keep reading this over and over. Love it!!!

  2. Neat story – one unrelated comment, just wanted to thank you for continuing to keep your site clean and orderly, unlike some other ‘singular mile’ sites out there that are an affront to people with vision. Cheers!

  3. “It’s the second bird that could become a problem in the B/C concourse club, though, if both stay long enough – because American Airlines only allows one carrion.”

    Well done. Slow clap.

  4. LOL, I’ve been to the club a few times when the first bird arrived and just recently with it’s friend. They generally stay out of your way and “tweet” a lot. Just don’t leave food laying around. I have seen the first bird dive boom for a cookie or cracker.

PHL is a true S@#$ Show. . .LOL . I hope they can be removd safely and set back into the wild.

  5. Where are the folks that usually place the blame on Biden? Clearly, he could have evacuated the birds…

  6. This reminds me of the flock of resident pigeons in the old BDL (Hartford) AA Club. You could clearly hear them when using the rest rooms.

  7. We were there last week saw them flying above. If you do get a squirt then it is supposed to be good luck. The F lounge was open and you can see that the chairs are well worn. One thing I do not under stand is why there is NO changing room in this Lounge. The Men’s room is too small to .

  8. There were actually four Admirals Clubs in PHL. You missed the little dungeon downstairs in A East, though it’s also temporarily closed.

  9. AAmerican blamed the weather.

Maybe AA will cancel 50% of their birds, as they cancel 50% of their flights.
