Unlock $650 in Luxury with a $95 Card: Vegas’s Ultimate Status Match [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • This is the Vegas status match game some folks play:

  • European court vindicates TAP Air Portugal’s pandemic refund subterfuge: TAP Air Portugal was one of the worst offenders refusing and delaying refunds for cancelled flights during the pandemic. They did offer travel vouchers right away to those that accepted them instead of cash. The European Court of Justice upheld this saying that passengers accepting vouchers in lieu of refunds did so knowingly and that this is consistent with EU261/2004. (HT: Alan Z)

  • The future (well, April 8th anyway) is so not bright, you gotta wear shades.

  • Driver steals an Uber Eats order, fails to deliver anything, and Uber says sorry you still have to pay:

  • First ‘Hyatt Vivid’ resort opens in Cancun

  • Donald Trump is suing Trump Social co-founders over their $600 million stake, which he says they do not deserve. Their original agreement is just kind of awesome, especially provisions for travel and expense reimbursement:

A schedule to the agreement lists “guidelines for reimbursable expenses.” Litinsky and Moss were entitled to reimbursement for “economy, coach or supersaver fares” on flights and trains, though “21-day advance purchase is expected, when possible.” Reasonable hotel bills were reimbursable, “where under $150.00 per night is typically reasonable for most cities.” Laundry and dry cleaning were “not normally reimbursed for planned trips of less than 1 week.” They had to submit receipts for “any individual expenditure of $10.00 or more.”

  1. So Trump is suing over the fine print . I didn’t know Trump gave a rat-tail about fine print . Possibly the reason he is suing is because their shares became so valuable . I think he will lose his lawsuit .

  2. Damn, $10 or more? I’ve worked at places were objectively stingy and aggressively questioned expenses, but NOBODY wants small receipts if they can avoid them. I think the most stringent I’ve had was $25. IRS rules state only transactions of $75 or more require receipts.

  3. Love the rif on “The Future’s so Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”, Gary !!! Not sure if you knew the history, a married couple (Barbara and Pat) were singer-songwriters with a boom box (drums and bass joined later). They started in Madison Wisconsin and ended up in Austin Texas (both big University Towns with big Engineering Schools). The song began as a somewhat grim commentary about Nuclear War, but many think that it was also influenced by Engineering Students in both towns bragging in the bars about how much money they were going to make (Fifty thou a year will buy a lotta beer). In any event, as an Alum of the University of Wisconsin Engineering School, and a 40 year resident of Austin, I’ll always consider it a classic.

  4. How could anybody go into to business with Trump and expect not to get screwes?

  5. The Uber Eats bit is hilarious. Clearly a bot customer service “rep.” Uber Eats, Hertz, AA – you gotta love ‘em lol.
