As Kauai Shuts Down Again, The Grand Hyatt Closes. Who Knows When It Will Re-Open?

The Grand Hyatt Kauai will remain closed for the rest of 2020 and into 2021, though it is not yet clear when the property will re-open. Kauai is one of Hawaii’s most beautiful islands, and the Grand Hyatt a top spot for frequent travelers – but not right now since the island’s Mayor has decided to stop accepting travelers with a negative test for Covid-19.

“Bye Karen!” Passengers Yell As Mask Refusenik Escorted Off Flight By Cops

Fox & Friends writer Griffin Frank shared video of a passenger confronted by a Frontier Airlines employee over their refusal to wear a mask on board.

The passenger would probably have gotten away with ignoring the mask request, and been on her way, but while the employee was still in earshot she started cursing. And that’s what got her removed, a ban from the airline, and a round of applause and “Goodbye Karen”‘s from other passengers as she was booted from the flight.

Last year Airline Information asked me to debate Stifel analyst Joe DeNardi on whether airlines should spin off their frequent flyer programs. I argued that they should not, that they were more valuable with incentives aligned through common ownership.

This year Airline Information again asked me to do a debate as part of their loyalty industry conference. This time I squared off against Charanpal Brar from Bond Brand Loyalty on the question of whether airline co-brand cards are as valuable as bank currencies.

Great ANA Business/First Class Award Space To Japan From August Through End Of Schedule

Right now there’s great business and first class award availability on Star Alliance airline ANA from several US cities to Tokyo and back starting in August and running through the end of the current airline schedule (basically, October). That’s great for connecting onward to Asia.

Two passengers can fly from Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose or Seattle using miles from United (or Chase), Avianca LifeMiles, or even better Virgin Atlantic (which partners with several credit card transferable points programs).
