All Centurion Lounges Will Close Saturday, Until Further Notice

American Express is closing all Centurion Lounge locations starting Saturday, March 21.

As the health and safety of our Card Members and colleagues is our top priority, in light of the spread of COVID-19 we are temporarily closing all The Centurion® Lounge locations, starting on Saturday, March 21, 2020. American Express will provide notice here and on the Amex Mobile App when locations reopen.

We look forward to reopening our lounges and welcoming our Card Members back as soon as we can. We appreciate your understanding during this time and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

All Centurion Lounge locations are included in this decision: Dallas Fort-Worth, Las Vegas, Miami, New York LaGuardia, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Philadelphia, Hong Kong, LAX, Phoenix and Charlotte. LAX only opened on March 9.


American Express Centurion Lounge Hong Kong

It actually seems odd to me to close Hong Kong at this point, when they didn’t do so at the start of the spread and only on March 5. While the primary place most people go to track the spread of coronavirus has started lumping Hong Kong in with mainland China recently, and while it was one of the places folks were initially worried about, the virus was largely contained there from the start. Indeed, people fled to Europe and have been trying to get back to avoid COVID-19.

  1. My wife and I both opened platinum cards in December in anticipation of the LAX lounge. Now we will have no use for the lounge for at least 6-8 months. Do you think I would get clawbacks/shutdown for cancelling this card? Are they relaxing that during this time?

  2. Thankfully, as a benefit to paying the $550 annual fee, the American Express Platinum card offers complimentary access to Priority Pass lounges to replace the shuttered AMEX Centurion lounges. Now, cardholders will have more opportunities to be denied lounge entry due to overcrowding. Membership has its privileges.

  3. My AF on the plat just hit. I wonder if Amex will waive the AF since I can’t really use any of my benefits given current events
