Airline Admission: The Reason Checked Bags Always Lose Their Zipper Pulls

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • United Airlines and Singapore Airlines sign codesharing agreement which could be extended to Scoot as well. In the Smisek era Singapore and United hated each other, leading Singapore to go partner outside Star Alliance (JetBlue and later Alaska) for domestic U.S. feed.

  • Tonga sees its very first Covid case identified in a passenger arriving on a flight from New Zealand. The passenger was double vaxxed with Pfizer and tested negative prior to departure. (HT: Paul H.)

  • The reason checked bags always lose their zipper pulls?

  • Marriott has been giving out gift boxes to elite members at select hotels, apparently since August and I didn’t realize it? Welcome back!

Thank you for being a Marriott Bonvoy elite member – we truly appreciate you staying with us. As we all look forward to exploring the world again, we’d like to share this gift with you to help enrich your travel journeys. Thanks again for choosing Marriott Bonvoy and our portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands. We can’t wait to hear about your travels!

  1. It’s interesting to see the SQ agreement with UA.
Hopefully it does result in lower fares to Asia.

  2. How on earth does that work?!? Do they put a note if your file once you get one? Or could the same elite end up with 5 boxes? That doesn’t seem right. Was shipping too expensive? SMH…

  3. Titaium at Marriott — received the gift box on Saturday at the Marriott on Singer Island in Florida, along with two small bottles of champagne! I left the gift box for the cleaners.
