Via God Save the Points there are amazing business class fares from the West Coast of North America to China and even Hong Kong at a deep discount.

There are great deals on Air China, China Southern, Xiamen, Delta, and Japan Airlines to Beijing and Chengdu and a bit more money to Hong Kong. Fares are available out of Vancouver, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco.

When fares are this low you don’t want to spend miles for an award ticket. It can be worth paying for travel to the international gateway city (a great use of Southwest points would be a flight to Los Angeles to position for this deal), or it could be worth using Beijing or Chengdu as a connecting point, buying another ticket from there.

God Save the Points describes available routes with the very best deals out of Vancouver,

These deals start at just $1390 on China Southern after clicking through. The next nest deals are from Los Angeles to Chengdu on SkyTeam member Xiamen, aboard their beautiful Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. These deals pop up as $2000 on Google Flights, but if you use Kayak or Momondo to book, you’ll see prices drop into low $1800s.

Air China has the next lowest deals, also from Los Angeles, starting at around $1900 using online travel agencies. Find low fares on Google Flights and then play with booking sites to drop the price.

United and Air Canada are both offering low fares from Seattle and San Diego respectively. Once again, it’s worth using an online travel agency to see if you can get the price lower. Finally, here’s the $2000 JAL deal from Vancouver to Beijing.

Here’s a sample fare on China Southern for $1545:

Key details of China Southern’s fare basis IZRCC:

  • 7 day minimum trip
  • 3 month maximum stay
  • 1 free stopover permitted, a second one is allowed for CAD$100
  • Tickets must be issued by April 30th, but I wouldn’t expect the fare to be available that long
  • Travel permitted starting May 6
  • Changes are CAD $100.00
  • Refunds are CAD $200.00

  1. China Southern biz class looks fantastic! Looks much more comfortable than AA and I’m sure the service is better.

  2. @Mark Admittedly I have never flown China Southern, but I would not be so sanguine about the quality of their service!
