American Airlines: A Study In Contrasts [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • There was a time United Airlines had stacks of cards in the galley that flight attendants would hand out to passengers to provide compensation to passengers for broken seats.

  • Meanwhile American Airlines still operates its fleet of legacy US Airways Airbus A320s, and nearly a decade into the merger all they’ve received is new seat covers.

  • American is a new contrast in opposites, unclear to employees or customers what they’re trying to be.

  • View From The Wing. Wait for the end.

  • Law enforcement stopping people in airports for something that’s basically not even a crime in many states anymore – just because they’re in an airport – is absurd. ‘Defund the police’ rhetoric went to far two years ago, but there was a reason behind the passion (though that mostly involved violence and not just violation of rights).

  1. Love the self appointed cowboy hat and fake badge wearing saviors of us all. What an idiot. AA need to find out who this losers is and revoke his travel rights. Let’s not try to make it the airlines fault when losers and idiots fly.

  2. “There was a time United Airlines had stacks of cards in the galley that flight attendants would hand out to passengers to provide compensation to passengers for broken seats. ”

My wife just recently got a $25 voucher from a UA FA because her light was broken at her seat, in coach.

  3. Unfortunately, regardless of whether Defund rhetoric went too far, what’s for sure is that Defund policy implementation (or lack thereof) went not nearly far enough!

  4. There was a time when employee’s could fly D2/D1, now you have to buy a ticket just to fly! Since I have to pay I fly who offers the best service and since I work for AA and see how crappy the service is from Top to Bottom.. I usually fly someone else! AA is ‘Last Resort’

  5. Traveled with AA for the first time in 15 years…Will not happen again.. Charlotte-Providence on a CRJ-200? had wide open overhead large bins and under the seat capacity.( and in first class seat)..but their policy is NO ROLLER BAGS in the cabin…Found this out when entering the plane! My bag (new first time I used this one) is a Brics and fits in all CRJ aircraft but made me leave on tarmac in the rain. Got it back with wheel broken,,, Complaint follow-up was a joke,,,,

  6. Simply and decisively, just avoid this hickish airline from hell!! The worst legroom/seat comfort in the industry. No seat entertainment and the Wi-Fi is good only when it works. Cmon you guys!! Need I say more. You can do a million times better!!

  7. Is that guy actually a cop, or pretending to be as a previous commenter suggested? Honestly, he reminds me of J.W. Pepper, the hick sheriff in the Roger Moore Bond films. If he stopped me on a jet bridge, before opening any bag for inspection, I’d definitely insist on him credibly answering “am I being detained, and if so, on suspicion of what charge?” But that’s definitely white privilege.
