News and notes from around the interweb:
- American Airlines has eliminated the ability to hold paid ticket reservations on its website for many customers, yet continues to tell those customers to put reservations on hold. If that isn’t the most American Airlines thing ever…
- Another reason checked bags are bad, you find yourself in a different terminal than baggage claim.
- Iberia couldn’t get parts for business class seats, but had to take delivery of new A350s anyway, so they’re mostly flying around Europe.

- New Qatar Airways ‘Al Mourjan North’ business class lounge will be a massive 97,000 square feet Executive Traveller calls it the world’s largest airport lounge, but I don’t think that’s quite right, since I believe the Emirates A concourse lounges are over 100,000 square feet (remember that the business and first class lounges are each an entire level of the terminal).
This new lounge will be for Qatar Airways business class (paid or points) passengers, and not for upgrades or oneworld partner airline passengers or oneworld elites flying economy.
- The Biden Department of Justice is doing Delta’s bidding, suing to break up the American Airlines-JetBlue alliance, but the real limit on competition in New York is imposed by the government: slot controls. The government gives a huge subsidy to incumbent airlines, limiting how many flights operate and who can operate them. And Delta is squatting on slots rather than using them to fly passengers where they want to go.
- Quadruple TAP Air Portugal status miles
- DC metro to ‘almost Dulles’ finally set to open November 15
Travel is difficult enough as it is without additional hoops to jump through. Thanks for sharing.
Actually, if you get to that point on trying to apply a trip or flight credit, it’s automatically put it on a 2-hour hold. Just flip over to your reservations page and you’ll see it there, complete with six-letter reservation code. Use that when you call it in.
At least it’s been that way over the past two weeks. No idea if it’s still that way today.
If there something bad that can be done the Brandon admin will do it.
What does Biden have to do with American Airlines’s policies and practices re making/holding reservations online? Why politicize everything, Gary? It’s exhausting.
It’s very unlikely the QR lounge won’t permit ticketed oneworld business/first passengers.
Those A350s are also flying to Caracas and Mexico City. Not selling J cabin on flight
Checked bags are indeed bag, just as carry-on bags are also bag.
With JetBlue combining with Spirit, the AA/JetBlue deal needs to die.
American should compete based on product, not eliminating consumer choice.
Having no slots at JFK was horrendous: 3+ hours to get to the runway, and often terminals that were literally gridlocked. No thanks.
Silver line at Dulles is “5 minute walk thru tunnel to baggage claim area”. So why isnt the station at the terminal? I think someone who doesnt travel designed this.
Today’s inclement weather is causing flight delays at YLT. Is this Joe Biden’s fault?
@MIAZiggy – No, it’s Bush’s fault. Everything will always be Bush’s fault. Unless it’s good, then Obama is solely responsible. Until it goes bad, then it’s back to Bush.
I’m a student at Ithaca college and the flights to jfk makes life a lot easier for both domestic and international flyers
