News and notes from around the interweb:
- American’s $1 shelf-stable pasta rears its ugly head. “[A} daring tribute to the timeless cuisine of an elementary school cafeteria. Just missing the spork.”

- If there’s one airline where bare feet is on brand though it’s Spirit, right?
- A trip report of Amtrak’s inaugural re-launched Chicago to Miami service, which is insane. And this is a report from coach:
Good evening from Chicago Union Station!!!!
Photographer Pat Nabong and I are riding the very first run of Amtrak's Floridian train from Chicago to Miami for the @Suntimes.
We'll be on the train for 46 hours (at least). I'll live tweet the journey here ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/IcNa4SIFgj

- Wyndham business card will no longer let you match its free status to Caesars and therefore on to other casino programs, effective February 1.
- A woman flying Bangkok to Chiang Mai had a Rolex taken from her at airport security. (HT: Enilria) She flew back to Bangkok the next day desperate to find it. Police reviewed security footage and found the culprit, and tracked her down in Phuket. She thought “it belonged to a family member.”
According to Rachawalee, the monetary value of the watch does not matter to her, but its sentimental value does. She said her mother had given her the watch…
46 hours on an Amtrak train is insane!!
So , the Thai woman takes off her watch , doesn’t retrieve it on the day , and returns the next day ?.
Plus , the Mexico woman sees the watch , and thinks it belongs to a relative ?
Looks like we have two people with the awareness of our Camel-a ?
I flew American domestic in first the other day. I had the breakfast enchiladas. It included a nice fresh fruit plate and a very tasty warm cinnamon bun. Perhaps my expectations are more grounded but I found this menu plus the service that went with it to be quite good.
@David P … Did your cholesterol level spike up ?
Good resolution on the watch in Thailand.
I commonly get better meals on long haul flights with Asian airlines in coach.
Spending $60k on a wedding with 270 guests (friends and relatives) where most of them are cheap is insane. To be sure, the wedded couple should have been able to read the crowd that they were inviting. It sounds like a plague of locusts.
What? A genuine Rolex? In Bangkok?
The wedding couple should have kept the $60K and go to Vegas.
Elvis would tie the knot for 500 bucks.
Alert, where did you go to comedy school, Trump University?
OK, full disclosure first…I fly coach as it is all I can afford. The prices on Business and First are, for me, absurdly high and out of reach. But I manage to forego a “big seat” and enjoy the savings of what is typically HUNDREDS of dollars, and spend just a bit of the savings on a decent meal in the airport, or “take-aboard” food/snacks. I’ll often “upgrade” for a “+” seat, giving myself those extra inches to assure adequate comfort (I’m not a big guy). Flying has become just utilitarian transportation, nothing more…at least on domestic airlines (all of them). For the flights I use, 3 hours and less, I will spend my limited money on things which seem worth it, and not satisfy coorportate greed and foolishness.
If dude wants to walk barefoot in an airplane, so be it. His feet and I certainly don’t want to know what’s on the bottom of his feet. I’ll just keep my shoes on like the 99% of people do.
And dear Lord, that must be on infuriating entitled wedding couple. With that type of attitude, I hope that they never get a decent honeymoon.
The Tom Robinson Band once recorded a great song called “Glad To Be Gay”. One of my reasons for being glad to be gay is fully encapsulated by the “bride”. No real man (south Asians excepted) would stand for spending sixty grand and having 270 people at a wedding, especially since it’s perfectly clear it’s all about HER HER HER. Fortunately, I have never had to deal with grasping, greedy egotistical maniacs like her.
I believe catering for all DTW departing flights are still impacted by the recent health inspection shutdown of the catering vendor.
I guess when you have beautiful feet, you have to show them off.
