Delta Promises Free Miles, Takes 10 Seconds

On Tuesday I wrote about a Delta Air Lines bonus for LAX flights. You can earn 1000 bonus miles every 7 days through September 30 for flights in and out of LAX.

SkyMiles Members and non-Members will earn 500 bonus miles for eligible Delta Air Lines flights flown from / to LAX after scanning the promo QR code from the signages located at LAX airport between August 2, 2021 and September 30, 2021 (ending 11:59:59 PM, U.S. PST on 9/30/2021). Eligible customers will be able to get the bonus miles up to 2 (two) times (1000 bonus miles) every 7 days. Flights must be both marketed and operated by Delta.

Normally I say ‘register for every promotion’ because even if you don’t have plans that will take advantage of an offer, plans change even at the last minute. And you’ll never remember to go back and register later.

You might not fly Delta at all, but your airline of choice might re-route you and wind up with a Delta flight in or out of Los Angeles as part of a larger itinerary perhaps. However I didn’t follow that advice and register immediately because I don’t have plans to be on the Left Coast before the end of the month (let alone with Delta).

However The Gate points out that when you register for the offer you get a page immediately telling you that miles are on the way!

Now, I didn’t scan a QR code at LAX and don’t have associated flights credited to my SkyMiles account. But Delta says miles are coming in a couple of days. If nothing else, this is a good reason to always stick to the mantra and register for promotions when they’re right in front of you.

  1. Pretty sure the landing page text is because the QR code is only present beyond security at LAX, so I think they’re assuming you’ve scanned it with an active PNR. But I dunno ‍♀️

  2. Everybody sing it together:

    I just earned 500 miles
My wife just earned 500 more
My whole family earned 1000 miles
To fall down at your door

    DA DA DA DA DA!

And now that song will be stuck in your head all day!

  3. However if you read the T&C below the registration box, it clearly says you earn the points in connection with the particular flights. Don’t hold your breath on this one.
