Delta’s ‘Queer Eye’ Safety Video That Will Never Be Seen On Board

Delta has a new Covid-era masked-up safety video and that apparently means that the Queer Eye safety video they produced will never be seen on board. However it exists online.

Personally I’ll take the low-tech approach when a flight attendant is good as this budding rap star. And no one will ever personify Delta in a safety video the way that Deltalina did with her playful finger wag.

I’m not sure how much value ‘fun’ safety videos actually add. Do they get us to pay attention? Perhaps, but I’m not sure they get us to understand, internalize, and remember the safety information. Perhaps we focus on and remember the non-safety elements to the exclusion of the information that’s more important.

I love creativity in these videos anyway. They’re fun, they make me smile. Queer Eye (née Queer Eye For The Straight Guy) doesn’t do it for me per se, I’m beyond reclamation, but I applaud the attempt nonetheless.

  1. Why do you think they won’t show this in September when the mask mandate is gone?

  2. This was cute! Needed more of the guys doing funny things to make ppl pay attention but I liked it.

  3. Rough air? Do we need to dumb down further and lose words of more than 2 syllables? When I heard it first time… all I could think of was someone passing gas !!!

  4. Nah, as an LGBTQ person, I thought they were trying a little too hard to get the message across – and frankly – in my opinion – not really that funny.
I love the fact that Delta is promoting diversity – but there are smarter and refined ways to do it…and not necessarily subtle. We know – because they have done it in the past.

  5. You’re reminding me of one real reason I like the seat-back IFE on planes, Gary! These messages are generally a LOT better when 1) you force passengers to watch them 2) they all get a clear view and 3) they’re more entertaining than FA’s (excepting Southwest!).

IDK if that’s enough of a reason to keep seat-back screens, but I do appreciate it!

  6. As if there wasn’t enough gay crap around. I get so sick of hearing these obnoxious, effeminate voices. I’m gay myself and I find it annoying.

  7. One thing I miss about AA losing seat back screens are the safety video (although AA’s just scares me). During my DL hub days, loved the video especiall during the holidays.

This one was “cute” and doesshowcased the LGBTQ (I think that’s all the letters) community at DL, which I apploaud, but the Queer Eye guys can be a bit annoying ( I perfer the original cast myself). It does sterotype the community unfortantely and glad DL didn’t release it for that reason.

Oh well, maybe a college football edition can come out with the new NCAA rules. . .it will like be all SEC players. . .LOL

  8. Too bad nobody will really get to see this DL safety video unless they’re specifically looking for it. I’m a gay dude and I have to admit that sometimes these “inclusive” videos kind of make me cringe! Lol! That said, Jonathan Van Ness is so over the top that he usually cracks me up – as in those Grubhub commercials with Simone Biles. Just sayin’…

  9. @DarkStar

In that case, DarkStar, ya better hold on tight! This “slippery slope” has been a long time coming and you’re just another disgruntled pax. G’day!

  10. I don’t know why Delta would want to victimize a large portion of their customers with such junk. Can’t they just try to provide safety information instead of weak attempts to entertain.

  11. Everything has gone into the toilet, every last bastion of courtesy and discretion. Thanks Gary for reinforcing my contempt for flying.

  12. @joanie adams

Joanie, honey, then do us all a favor and stay home – or drive. You’re one of those hateful curmudgeons that we really don’t want to deal with whilst crammed in a flying tube. Mmmk?
