Free Hyatt Elite Status For American AAdvantage Elite Members

Hyatt and American Airlines have a useful partnership where members with status earn points in both programs when they stay with Hyatt and when they fly American. Those Hyatt stays even count towards American Airlines status (since they’re not just redeemable miles, but also loyalty points).

Each year – here’s 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 – they offer trial elite status with an opportunity to keep and upgrade status. Here’s Hyatt’s 2024 offer to American AAdvantage status members.

Those with American AAdvantage status (Gold or higher) who have Hyatt and American AAdvantage accounts can register for Hyatt Explorist status for 90 days.

You can pick when you’d like this status to start, through October 31. So if you need the status right away, register now. If you prefer to use it for a January 2025 stay, you want to wait until October to register. Then, once registered, you can complete a challenge to keep the status through February 2026. Your upcoming stays you can make with Hyatt is another reason to time the 90 day trial status period.

To keep status,

  • AAdvantage Gold and Platinum members must stay 10 qualifying nights during the trial
  • Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members can stay 10 qualifying nights to keep Explorist or 20 nights to earn Globalist.
  • ConciergeKey members of course have been receiving complimentary Globalist already.

Explorist is ok for late checkout and to hopefully avoid the room over the HVAC. Hyatt’s mid-tier status isn’t competitive, really, though Globalist with actual nights stayed is the best major chain hotel status. Confirmed suite upgrades and a dedicated customer service rep (‘concierge’) are benefits earned based on nights, and not conferred with Globalist status.

Nonetheless, Globalist is useful for:

  • upgrades at check-in up to standard suites if available
  • club lounge access or restaurant breakfast
  • 4 p.m. late checkout that’s actually honored (excluding resort and casino properties)

As with all Hyatt promotions, check out date is what matters. Qualifying nights during the promotion period, but where check out doesn’t occur until after the promotion ends, won’t count towards the status challenge.

Completing the challenge will mean status status gets applied to your account within 7 business days of checkout from the status where you finished the requirement.

This offer doesn’t prevent you from taking a trial status in future years – it is merely limited to once per year, and Hyatt and American seem to run this annually.

  1. What if you’re already globalist. Can we use this a path to easier requalification? Thanks!

  2. My question exactly. Been a slow year for me for travel, this would make it so much easier.

  3. AA PP, Hyatt Globalist here. My offer in the AA app says nothing about 20 nights to earn Globalist, only the 10 for Explorist. Did you see that in the current offer?

  4. Yes this works for existing Globalists, only thing about using this offer, if you don’t meet the milestone thresholds, you don’t get the extra points, suite upgrades nor access to the concierge.
