Full IHG PointsBreak List Revealed in Advance, Bookable Monday for 5000 Points Per Night

The new IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks hotels — reward nights you can book for just 5000 points — will be bookable on Monday for stays through January 31, 2017.

5000 points per night is a fantastic deal, the best redemption value for hotels bar none. Unfortunately there aren’t many of their higher end hotels on this list. There’s only one Intercontinental — Cali, Colombia.

You have to want one of the specific hotels on the list, want to stay there during the promotion period, and have to act fast because the most desirable properties tend to get pulled down from the list rather quickly.

You can only book 2 reservations per hotel using PointsBreaks during each offer period. The idea is to prevent folks from sitting on (or bartering) reservations. Although there will still be some folks in China especially scripting reservations in bulk and trying to resell them.

IHG released the full list here.

  1. I’d be curious to know just how many people get value from this promo each year? The list of hotels is dismal, why do they continue it and why do bloggers keep hyping it?

  2. @sice, I have personally found value often, though not usually super outsized value. At least once a year there is a holiday inn or a crown plaza somewhere I need to be for a night for which $35 is a great price. Sometimes there is a convenient IC somewhere I happen to be going over seas. Sure, its not the greatest deal, but often there is value for SOMEONE there.

  3. Sice, you are correct, rarely is it a good deal, or even useful. But it gives the bloggers a “reason” to toss out a link for the Chase IHG credit card.

  4. @Sice…I agree with you. Most of the listings are dismal this time around. Two years ago I got a Points break deal for Winter Park, Colorado during ski season. I used it for two nights. I have been looking ever since for a deal such as this and nothing even comes close to measuring up. Colorado doesn’t even have a listing this time around! Thin pickins’ to say the least….

  5. @Sice They are perfect for staycations, cheap/free getaways for a night. I do maybe about two per year.

And sometimes, you luck out and one is available on your travels. This has happened to me a few times (click my name to see a post I wrote on this).

  6. Wow ONE in all of the NorthEast in Scenic Meriden CT. Now who wants to spend their holidays there? The last time i saw a hotel on here in Rhode Island it was in beautiful Woonsocket over looking a car dealership. Woonsocket is BORING!!!!

Why are there none on Cape Cod? downtown Boston? or any other historical scenic place?

  7. I don’t always get value out of them, but I see two this time that are perfect for upcoming travels. When they work they’re an excellent deal, though I don’t think one should value IHG points based on premise you can count it.
