Germany Has Imposed New Restrictions On American Visitors

Germany has tightened restrictions on U.S. visitors and a negative test is no longer sufficient for unvaccinated to enter if they’ve been to the GStates in the previous 10 days.

Starting Sunday, travelers who have recently spent time in the U.S. will need to be fully vaccinated or demonstrate an “important reason” for entering. Those who are unvaccinated or unable to show proof of recovery will need to self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival. The quarantine period can end on the fifth day with proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

Ten day quarantine on arrival, by the way, appears to now be the right length of time to ensure someone entering a country doesn’t spread Covid-19 (which is a slightly shorter period than pre-Delta variant).

  1. @ Gary — So, are you saying that vaccinated US citizens can enter Germany without a covid test?

  2. As someone hoping to travel to Germany soon, I fully support this. Actually, I believe it should apply to anyone flying (get vaccinated first), but that’s probably not happening. Slowly, however, Canada, Germany and other countries are doing the right thing……

  3. Agreed, allowing only vaxxed visitors is the way to go. It’s not the transmission that is the problem, as vaxxed people can transmit just as quickly as non-vaxxed. It’s the drain on healthcare services which puts a country’s economy at stake.

Which is something I don’t understand about the anti-vaxxers. Who do they think is picking up the tab for all these billions of dollars for care of unvaxxed Covid patients? Health care isn’t free!

  4. Good. Excellent policy that should be the norm everywhere.

“Germany Implements Rational Travel Requirements for Inbound Travelers” doesn’t make the good clickbait headline Gary needs though.

  5. Great news. Let vaccinated people in. Keep unvaccinated people out. That should be universal. Stop punishing people who do the right thing because if a needless crisis caused by those who don’t.

  6. Good move by Germany. Insane to let in tons of unvaccinated americans. Hopefully the rest of the world follows Germany’s example.

  7. Good move Germany.
Plus the ppl who are Un-Vaaxed, you probably didn’t want them as visitors anyway.

  8. @kimmy. Please provide science behind this statement.; “ vaxxed people can transmit just as quickly as non-vaxxed. ”

  9. There are going to be a lot of surprised people in the next couple of weeks as they learn the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection and — surprise — completely wears off in about 200 days. They’ll memory hole their entire mean and nasty “the unvaxed people suck” narrative.

Enjoy your vaccine immunity while it lasts folks. Just don’t sign up for the booster before it’s rigorously tested, OK?

  10. Americans refuse to be compliant in the USA. Why would they be compliant in Europe? They cannot follow rules or decorum. Only vaxxed tourists should be allowed. Bravo, Germany.
