Insane Hotel Deal: Capital One $200 Off $200 (Really, No Minimum Spend, $200 Off)

Several readers let me know that Capital One Travel has a special $200 off offer for hotel stays in their ‘Premier Collection’ for Venture X and Venture X Business cardmembers. There is no minimum spend for the night. Book a $201 all-in room, and the cost will come to $1 for the night.

The offer was available in my account as well. If it’s targeted, it is widely targeted. Just go to Capital One Travel in the rewards section of your account and at the top of the page you’ll see ‘Offers’ highlighted by a light blue ribbon.

Clicking that, I was taken to the offers page and the top one was $200 off $200.

Search for hotels, and anything within their Premier Collection (highlighted with a dark blue background) will automatically discount $200.

Book by December 31, but they flag in the terms “while supplies last” so I fully expect they’ll pull this much sooner. It is going to get heavy use. You can only use the discount once (and cannot be reused if you cancel the booking).

American Express has a $200 credit offer annually on its Platinum card for Fine Hotels & Resorts offerings, but (1) this isn’t a published benefit of the Venture X, it’s a one-off coupon, and (2) there seem to be plenty more hotels available than you’ll find with Amex FHR (and often I find those hotels priced several times higher than what I’d pay directly, at least searching just a single night).

If you have a Venture X or Venture X Business, you might as well jump on this and book a cancellable reservation for a one night stay somewhere that you might need.

Terms and conditions:

This is a limited offer that will provide eligible customers a discount of up to $200 on a Premier Collection hotel reservation made via Capital One Travel during the offer period. This offer will only be available until the earlier of (i) December 31, 2023, or (ii) while supplies last; and the offer is only available for one booking per account. The discount will be provided as a one-time, single discount not exceeding $200. Once applied, the discount will not be available for other reservations, even if the qualifying reservation is canceled. This offer is available to Venture X and Venture X for Business cardholders. This promotion cannot be retroactively applied to bookings made before the offer starts, and will not be applied to any bookings made after the offer expires. Your Capital One account must be open and in good standing to be eligible for the offer. Travel offers are valid for consumer, non-commercial use only. Travel offers are non-transferrable, have no cash value, may not be redeemed for cash, and may not be combined with other offers unless specified. We reserve the rights to: alter or terminate a travel offer at any time; change these terms and conditions associated with travel offers; and/or disqualify any account holder from any travel offers. 1. Thanks, got the same offer.

Also important to note that the $300- annual travel credit will no longer be applied directly to the credit card but MUST be utilized by using the Capital One Travel portal (on the credit card site) and making a purchase through that portal.

  2. Booked the Pendry in Chicago for $4. Comes with early check in, late check out, breakfast for 2 and a $100 Resort credit. Doesn’t get much better

  3. ehh.. if you’re in Austin, the Loren is $207 plus taxes sometimes, so just use it for the free food credit. Of course, it’s $1400 this weekend cause of the K. State game.

  4. I wouldn’t call it an “insane” deal. It’s not really different from the Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts $200 standing credit. The selection of hotels is extremely limited, and prices are mostly high enough to make the $200 credit to have very limited value. I have 5 trips planned over the next 12 months: Costa Rica, Spain, Paris, Norway, and Italy. I couldn’t find use for the $200 credits (I have them on two separate cards) for any of the trips. Compared to the hotels I’ve already booked with points or money, the limited selection of Premier hotels were not a good choice (where I could find any).

  5. @Jason… Same here for Jamaica, Paraguay, Bolivia or Mexico in the next month but didn’t know I could pick something in London or Balboa or Canada for after the 1st of the year??? Can you book this promo for next year or has to be consumed BEFORE December 31st… You are right, NOT THAT INSANE for me!!

  6. Capitol One:
    0- Bangkok properties
    2- Hong Kong properties
    2- Tokyo properties

    Amex FHR:
    8- Bangkok properties
    9- Hong Kong properties
    12- Tokyo properties

Date June 5th for one night.

Curious what cities you searched Gary?

  7. Just booked The One Barcelona GL in Barcelona, in Spain of course. It was $314 / night before taxes & fees , $347 all in with free cancellation. The $200 was auto applied at checkout and netted $147. Since there’s a $100 “experience” credit that can be used for food & beverages, I’m down to $47 BU WAIT, there’s MORE… I will also get free breakfast for 2 at a 5 STar hotel.

Soooo, probably netting out to close to ZERO out of pocket!
