News notes from around the interweb:
- Are people starting to take Uber rideshares again? Meanwhile Uber picked up an $810 million federal contract for rideshare services.
- Some Hyatts are renting rooms as day use offices. I believe Red Roof Inn was first with this concept?
- Indicted Air Peace CEO may become Nigeria’s next President. He could solve budget shortfalls running a nationwide 419 scam.
- New hotel properties that are moving forward with planned openings despite no guests in this current environment (NYT)
- Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson says they are “working on new ways to protect guests and hotel workers…[including] more rigorous cleaning protocols, masked hotel workers, and other methods for keeping people apart.” (Emphasis mine.) So much for the Moxy brand, I guess, with tiny rooms where everyone is supposed to congregate in social spaces and spend money on food and beverage.
- The Hilton Garden Inn on West 37th Street in New York is being used to quarantine people with COVID-19. Three men were found dead there over the weekend. Using hotels this way is necessary for public health, and helps fill otherwise empty properties, but will there be a stigma when this is all over?
- Get well soon, Richard Quest!
I have caught coronavirus. I am blessed in that I have few symptoms – just a cough. I am saving my prayers and thoughts for those less fortunate. Stay in. And protect lives.

It’s difficult to imagine what draconian government controls will be enacted due to this hoax.
@Gary — I’m sure Marriott will use social distancing as an excuse to close all Club Lounges. I am so glad that I avoid Marriott properties.
Is it safe to say that Make a Green Choice is officially dead at Marriott? They gutted the reward benefit of doing it of course after acquiring SPG, but any benefit/cost-cut that reduces cleaning like MaGC is obviously not going to be helpful any longer.
@James N – have you figured out if you will take the red pill or blue pill yet? You’re still in the simulation you know.
@Jon – hard to say…while I have given up all loyalty to Marriott (RIP Starwood), when I was staying there, I already had started opting out of MAGC due to the 2/3 point cut in real terms.
Marriott is not trustworthy end of the day.
@Gary Did you happen to have a chance to watch the interview with Arne?
Poor guy doesn’t look like he’s doing so hot; made me feel bad for him… I do hope he recovers soon.
@James N: “It’s difficult to imagine what draconian government controls will be enacted due to this hoax.”
The first rule of trolling is to not be so obvious.
Richard Quest has a long history of being sick.
“ Apr 19, 2008CNN personality Richard Quest was busted in Central Park early yesterday with some drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy in his boot, law …”

@James N
+1
And I mean it
@James N
Just wait, they’re coming… easily brain-washed and easily manipulated people won’t see it until it’s too late, unfortunately.
Doesn’t matter what the post is about, even if it’s positive or neutral news, if you mention the word Marriott, there will be threadshitters ruining the comments with their verbal diarrhea
@bhcompy – defend much? you genuinely think Marriott has been a *good* company the past ~2 years?
@ Chris@oak — My kinda guy.
To protect the well being of guests Marriott will discontinue all complimentary breakfasts to elites and close club lounges for their own benefit and safety
To insure social distancing all redemptions will double or triple for added safety
