Airlines That Let You Put Awards on Hold Instead of Ticketing Right Away
Putting an award on hold is really useful. Award travel can be complicated. Here’s what several different airline frequent flyer programs allow you to do.
This Ultimate #AvGeek Video Explains How Airports Were Planned 60 Years Ago
The best way to understand Washington Dulles is to go back to how the concept was being explained before it was even built.
This animated film by Ray Eames and Charles Eames explains the idea — how tragic they believed it was to walk long distances to gates, how revolutionary it would be to have “mobile lounges” that became the Dulles People Movers.
And it offers a fascinating window into how the future of aviation was seen through the eyes of the 1950.
Where Are All the TSA Screeners? Working Presidential Campaign Events!
While the TSA cries that they need more money to staff checkpoints, it turns out that 1500 TSA agents have been re-assigned to work security checkpoints at campaign events.
EVEN BETTER: Buy Star Alliance Miles With 135% Bonus Act By Thursday
Last month LifeMiles ran a 125% bonus on purchased miles. It’s been extended to June 3, and stackable with another offer for an extra 10%.
Since the 125% offer is only extended to June 3, you’ll want to register by June 2, ideally right away if you even think you might want to take advantage of this. A 125% bonus lets you buy miles at 1.47 cents apiece. It’s nice you can get this even lower. I maxed out last year with the 135% bonus.

Last summer ExpertFlyer brought back award availability searches (and emails) for Delta. And now Delta revenue inventory is back, too.
Helsinki Airport Holds Runway Fashion Show to Promote a Match Made in HEL
Helsinki Airport (HEL), home base for oneworld member Finnair, has a marketing campaign, Match Made in HEL. It’s their 3-letter airport code, but I’m not sure it’s how I’d market any travel experience.
And they’ve just hosted a fashion show that was held on the runway. (Get it? Airport. Fashion Show. Runway.)
Watch the Moment Lightning Strikes a Boeing 737, Just After Passengers Get Off the Plane
Here’s a video of a China Southern Boeing 737-800 being struck by lightning — minutes after passengers had disembarked the aircraft.
The video was taken at Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport in China, a four and a half year old airport with over 3 million annual passengers — served mostly by Chinese domestic airlines, but with service from Jetstar Asia, AirAsia, and Thai AirAsia.
