Air France KLM’s Flying Blue program should be interesting to U.S. frequent flyers for several reasons.

They offer one-way awards. They are an American Express Membership Rewards and a Citi Thank You points transfer partner. They have far more award space on their own flights than Delta has access to. They have most of their partners available for online booking.

Unfortunately their call centers are frustrating, their website can be too (and has been known to show ‘phantom’ award availability, seats that look available but aren’t really here to book).

Two Negative Changes to Korean Air’s Program Show Why They’re the Most Absurdly Generous in the World

Korean Air has the easiest first class award availability in the world. It’s the most generous program if you want to redeem first class awards for a family and not just for two passengers.

They have great partner awards — 80,000 miles in business class to Europe and cheap Hawaii awards to. And they have some of the lowest fees and most generous award hold policies of any airline.

American Express Membership Rewards Gets More Valuable With Etihad as New Transfer Partner

American Express Membership Rewards announced the addition of a new points transfer partner today: Etihad Guest. Transfers to Etihad are already live.

In fact, Membership Rewards is now a transfer partner of Etihad across many international markets such as Australia, Canada, and the UK.

American Express joins Citi ThankYou Rewards in offering transfers to Etihad, and Etihad is already one of my favorite Citi partners.

American Has Improved Its Award Rules: Now Allows Cathay Pacific Routings to Indian Subcontinent

Back in the fall I spoke with AAdvantage President Suzanne Rubin and suggested that with their higher award pricing (since March 22), they could loosen their routing rules somewhat. She indicated they were looking at that.

And it appears they’ve started to because they now allow flying Cathay Pacific or American Airlines to Hong Kong, and travel beyond to India and the surrounding region on Cathay Pacific, as a single award — instead of requiring you to fly via the Atlantic.
