‘Shut the Door!’ Southwest Passenger Storms Gate, Battles Agents, Then Falls Hard in Houston Boarding Clash

A Southwest Airlines passenger gets into an argument at the gate. He seems to have shown up late – his seat have have been given away to a standby passenger. But he pushes past the agent and tries to rush the boarding door anyway and get onto the plane.

You can hear another agent yelling to shut the door, over and over. A couple of people still came off – a wheelchair and what looks like another passenger with a rollaboard (so perhaps he wasn’t late for the flight after all).

He battles. He falls. He slams into a boarding stanchion, before running off. -Then he comes back and declares that nobody hsa a right to put their hand on him. And I think I hear him say he’s getting his dog? He picks up his bag and leaves – not under arrest.

Video of the incident is very much not safe for work (language) and also not safe for work from home if kids are in the house.

This appears to be a Houston Hobby to Chicago Midway flight. The terminal design, seating, and signage (especially the yellow boarding signs with Southwest’s font and style) match Hobby’s concourse The layout of the boarding gates and the art installation visible in the background (the hanging cloud-like forms) are distinctive to Hobby as well. The gate sign says Chicago as the destintaion.

The original video was posted to Instagram yesterday and has around 5,000 likes there – the top comment “Damn, he even falls spicy” has over 1,000 likes. I do have to wonder if the man was just mad at Southwest’s new policy of charging for checked bags.

  1. Sure is looking a lot like Spirit at Southwest lately. Perhaps that is the beginning of a sign of things to come?

  2. 1. WTF were the cops. They should have been called immediately
    2. WTF did airports begin to double as Section 8 housing, prisons, homeless shelters, insane asylums, drunk tanks, and drug dens?
