Starwood Introducing Exciting Sheraton Free Weekend Night Promotion

You’ll be able to earn a free weekend night for every 5 nights you stay with Sheraton over nearly three months, up to 3 free nights earned.

Starwood Preferred Guest’s Gretchen Kloke emails news about a new promotion starting next month (that will stack with their other existing promotions like 1000 bonus points on weekend stays): Sheraton Free Weekends.

It’s the richest Sheraton focused SPG promotion in the history of the program. You’ll be able to earn a free Sheraton weekend night for every five Sheraton nights you stay from July 9th – Sept 30th. You can earn up to 3 free nights that can be combined, and can be used at any Sheraton hotel or resort (all Categories 1-7!) through Dec 13th. Just like our existing free night redemption, these Sheraton free nights don’t come with blackout dates or capacity controls. As long as the hotel has a standard room available – it’s yours. Registration will open July 9th, but bookings can be made any time.

Free weekend nights at any Sheraton worldwide, without capacity controls (just like standard award nights), that you can redeem through December 13. That’s pretty valuable.

Although I don’t get too excited about the reference to even including category 7 hotels, since as far as I know there aren’t any Sheraton category 7 properties. (Update: I stand corrected, Hotel Cervo in Sardinia is a Sheraton.)

The promotion will, however, include category 6s like Sheraton Denarau Villas on Fiji and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.

And since it’s Sheraton-specific it stacks with Starwood’s global promotions.

This isn’t as generous as the old ‘faster free nights’ at Hyatt with one free night every two stays. It’s arguably not as generous as free resort nights from 2011 which let you earn a free resort night capped at category 6 for every 3 stays.

But it’s the most generous promotion we know of coming into the market, and at a time when hotels are full (hence chains aren’t spending as much through promotions to fill rooms).

  1. Four Points stays won’t count. I assume that second (and third) rooms during the same stay will though we’ll wait for the promo terms and conditions on that.

  2. Short redemption window and very few aspirational Sheraton properties make this one a no-go for me. The only Sheraton properties I’m really interested in (mostly resorts in SE Asia–and even then if I’m traveling half way around the world, I’d rather stay in a nicer place) aren’t that expensive anyway in points or cash…

  3. Sometimes with starwood reward stays do count towards these promotions. Is there a way you can confirm for this particular promotion if reward stays will count? Thanks

  4. How soon do they normally award the free nights after completing the requirements. We are actually going to Greece and would love to spend $400 than spending $900 a night
