Swipe Right: Thailand Partners With Tinder To Bring Back Tourism

Thailand has re-opened to tourism albeit with restrictions such as a 15 day quarantine on arrival. People from all over the world can now travel to the country for their fix of beaches, boat noodles, and bar fines.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is working to bring back vacationers, and has launched a partnership with Tinder hoping leisure travelers will swipe right on domestic trips within the Land of Smiles.

Dubbed the “Single Journeys campaign,” they’ll be promoting trips to Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lop Buri-Saraburi, Udon Thani-Loei, Chumphon-Surat Thani, Phuket, Pattaya and Ayutthaya.

Starting on Dec 20, single tourists who would like to pray for a relationship can join a river cruise trip to visit nine holy temples by the river and have dinner on board. This project is a partnership with the dating application Tinder and Facebook page called Sneak Out.

For solo travellers who prefer travelling alone, the agency is also offering a secret island party at Koh Khai in Phuket on Jan 9, 2021.

TAT is also partnering with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) for a one-day trip by train under the “Rod Fai Loi Nam” programme to Pasak Jolasid dam in Lop Buri, scheduled for Jan 23, 2021.

In a sign that Thai expectations remain as unrealistic as ever, authorities predict the Tinder partnership will drive 7 million domestic trips. And in a sign that they can be more realistic even while making outlandish claims of success, tourism authorities expect it to generate just ~ $3.3 million in tourism revenue in quarter one of 2021.

Ah, nothing says secret party like publishing it in a major newspaper. Koh Khai is TINY with really one place to have to the party.

I was walking around a casino last year and they had TVs advertising their “hidden” speakeasy including directions on how to get in.
