15 properties that were not included in Marriott’s list of changes for 2021 went up or down in category.
They went up some time between the list’s publication and now, with 11 of the 15 going up in category (charging more points for hotels despite the pandemic’s historic blow to travel) and 4 hotels going down in category.
American Airlines is calling AAdvantage members with awards on hold for travel on Cathay Pacific and telling them they either have to ticket right away or cancel their bookings, thanks to a glitch where Cathay is cancelling held itineraries.

Iberia is offering 50% off redemptions booked by August 30 for travel September 1, 2020 through March 15, 2021. That’s a six and a half month period for travel, and creates an opportunity where we might just be able to travel again – and do so cheap, from just 17,000 miles each way between the U.S. and Europe.

Uou can spend 30,000 points per night – same as before – and have all of your dining included, (even room service) booking rooms that run $1500++. The property re-opens in mid-July. It’s a special place, and right now a special value when you can find rooms available for redemption.
Update: American’s new award change and reinstatement fees have been pushed off from June 1 to July 1. That’s an extra month where you can take advantage of waived change fees, booking before the potential for big new costs go into effect.
Yesterday United Airlines removed partner award charts from its website. The only reason a loyalty program removes award charts is so that they can raise the price of awards while trying to hide what they’re doing. I have never seen a program eliminate award charts and become more valuable.
We now know exactly why United pulled these charts yesterday without any notice to members. Seriously, they’re doing this now?
