Federal Government Admits It’s Too Incompetent To Know Who Should Get Global Entry, Who Shouldn’t
The federal government submitted false statements in court to defend terminating global entry applications for New Yorkers. Now the government said they just didn’t know what they were talking about when making the claims, rather than intentionally lying.
The real question here is whether’s it’s a bigger problem if the federal government lies to the courts, or if the people responsible for trusted traveler programs do not know what information they’re receiving, or what information they need, in order to determine eligibility?
New Yorkers Are Eligible For Global Entry Again
In early February the Trump Administration announced that New York residents would no longer be allowed to enroll in or renew Global Entry (along with NEXUS and SENTRI). They claimed they needed access to New York’s DMV database as part of their identity verification process, and a change in state law denied them this access.
New York has changed its law to provide an exception for Global Entry applications, but not for immigration enforcement.

New Yorkers Banned From Global Entry: Just Change Your Address?
A reader shares that they had Global Entry conditionally approved when New Yorkers were banned from being approved for Global Entry. He arrived at New York JFK off of an international flight from London shortly after the announcement, but while his approval was still active, and sought to do his interview on arrival. No officer was available. A few days later his application was purged along with the rest of New Yorkers.
However he “immediately reapplied” using an address in another state. It worked.
Federal Government Flushed Pending Global Entry Applications Submitted By New Yorkers
Wednesday night the Trump administration announced a new policy that New York residents are no longer eligible to apply for (or renew) Global Entry, SENTRI, or Nexus. That means no more expedited immigration, and it means New Yorkers getting their TSA PreCheck through these programs wouldn’t have that benefit renewed either.
It was unclear what would happen to New Yorkers who already had submitted applications (and renewals). That’s now clear. Those applications have reportedly been flushed.
