Hyatt Cracks Down On Hotel Adding 3.5% Fee For Electricity In Your Room
Tthe Hyatt Place Chicago has stopped adding 3.5% surcharges to guest folios for an ‘energy surcharge’.
A Hyatt spokesperson explained, “As soon as we were made aware of this situation, Hyatt worked with the hotel’s owners to look into the matter, and at this time, the hotel has removed this fee.”
Hyatt May Lose 22 U.S. Hotels Effective April 8
Service Properties Trust, which owns 329 hotels across numerous brands, has had disputes with IHG and Marriott and is transitioning those properties to Sonesta Hotels where it’s a one-third owner. Hotel chains often guarantee minimum revenue to property owners, and Service Properties Trust had a dispute over those payments.
Hyatt hasn’t refused to make payment, but has reached its full $50 million guarantee on the 22 hotels under its Hyatt Place brand owned by the company. That gives Hyatt the right to terminate its agreement with 90 days’ notice. Hyatt sent this notice of termination which is effective April 8, 2021.
Free Full Breakfast No Longer A Brand Standard For Hyatt Place
Hyatt Place is changing its breakfast offerings. They are going to vary by region of the world. Guests will no longer be guaranteed a free hot breakfast at any Hyatt Place in the world, even if they are members of World of Hyatt booking direct. That’s a huge change.
This degrades the premium brand that Hyatt Place has built. You still get reasonably stylish large rooms. I’m a fan of Hyatt Places generally, at least the properties that aren’t ex-AmeriSuites. Fortunately the change shouldn’t affect top tier Hyatt elites.
Hyatt Is Turning The Cook County Hospital Into Two Hotels
Hyatt is nearly done turning a former Chicago hospital into a hotel. Well, two hotels actually with a combined 210 rooms. A hundred year old building that once housed the nation’s first blood bank will become a Hyatt Place and Hyatt House next month.
$50 Back on $300 Hyatt Place or Hyatt House Spend Through January 5, 2020
World Of Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers (and those with the legacy Hyatt Credit Card) can receive a $50 statement credit for spending $300 or more directly with a Hyatt Place or Hyatt House property in the U.S. and Canada between October 1, 2019 and January 5, 2020. Registration required by November 30.
