American AAdvantage miles can now be redeemed for Oman Air flights, opening a useful new oneworld option for business class awards through Muscat. Oman Air is small, but its premium cabins are strong, award space can be useful, and this adds a valuable new route network for American miles.
Two years ago Oman Air announced that it planned to join the oneworld alliance which is headed by American Airlines and based in Dallas, and includes members like British Airways, Japan Airlines, and Qantas.
Now it seems that the oneworld launch is on the cusp of reality.
Back in September Oman Air announced its intention to join oneworld alliance and that it is working with Qatar Airways on its application as a sponsor.
Now joining is official.
Oman Air is now a partner of Air Canada Aeroplan. You can include Oman Air flights in Aeroplan awards, alongside other partner flights – even Star Alliance flights, or with partners like Etihad. That’s cool and even a little bit surprising since Oman Air announced their interest in joining oneworld two months ago.
The key to these rankings is subjective weight that goes into different components of the product. I value personal space more than anythnig else, so a first class configuration that’s four seats across isn’t going to rate as well for me as one that’s two or three seats across.
I’d never rate Air France or Garuda as highly as others — despite phenomenal ground service and attentiveness — because of the lack of real estate each first class passenger gets in the cabin.
