Register by September 9 and then travel on Southwest Airlines by November 18, 2021 and you’ll earn a Companion Pass that will be valid January 6, 2022 through February 28, 2022.

That’s two months of companion pass for two one-way flights (that can be a roundtrip, of course). That companion pass means being able to take someone with you on your travels (whether paid or award) for just the cost of security taxes.

You have to book your flight directly with Southwest using cash, and if you change your itinerary you’ll lose out on its earning a companion pass. Even though this is only a temporary companion pass, usual rules and benefits still apply (so you can change your companion three times during its validity).

It’s almost time to start thinking about earning a Companion Pass in 2022. At least that’s what I am doing. I was approved for a Southwest Airlines credit card in fall 2019. The bonus on my card, and additional spending, posted in January 2020 so I earned a companion pass for 2020 and 2021 (indeed, I’m told I was one of the very first people to earn it in 2020).

With that companion pass ending I am looking at earning enough points for a new one quickly – points that will post at the start of 2022 making my pass valid for the rest of 2022 and all of 2023. Since Southwest is the largest airline in my home market, it’s great to buy a ticket for myself (to earn status), having my wife as my companion, and using the points I’ve accumulated for our daughter.
