United is giving away a billion miles.
Every MileagePlus Chase Card purchase could be a winner.
Your next concert, tank of gas, slice of pizza or any other eligible purchase is an automatic entry for a chance to win 1,000,000 miles. Use your MileagePlus® Chase Credit Card for all of your purchases from August 1 thru September 30, 2016, for automatic entries and a chance to win.
You can also enter as many times as you wish online “however, each entry must be manually key stroked.” You do not need a United co-brand credit card to do this, but you do need to be a member of MileagePlus. (This entry method will presumably open August 1.)
Here are the prizes:
They’re valuing miles at 2.75 cents apiece. Fortunately they will also give you cash towards the taxes on these miles. Grand Prize winners get a check for $7500 in addition to the miles.
Lower level prizes will value the miles at 2 cents apiece. That means that a 25,000 mile prize is worth $500, beneath the $600 reporting threshold.
- A grand prize winner should be able to dispute the 2 cents a mile valuation of the prize
- Since United semi-regularly sells miles at 1.88 cents apiece that’s probably what I’d anchor on. (Even though there’s a legitimate case for 1.6 cents.)
There’s no guaranteed win like there was with the ‘IHG 47,000 Points for $136’ offer. But since you can enter online, some will enjoy doing that — but they’ve made clear, no scripts!
These are the miles they took away from decades-old customers because they got greedy and wanted to play arch-villian corporate overlords, complete with crony-capitalist payoffs that drove out the CEO. Now they want to start a lottery and even give away year’s free subscription to Economy Plus to get us back. Why not give us the fair miles we earned for all those years when you didn’t feel the need to bandy about 2% elitist policies and valued regular economy customers?

Great promotion and with a very catchy slogan at a real cheap price. As the billion miles it is giving away will probably cost the company somewhere in the north of 14 million dollars while generating huge buzz. (and some of it may recovered by credit card sales anyways.)
@Greg There is a new set of Hillary emails about to be released that detail how she played a major part in orchestrating the plot you are referring to above. Be sure to watch the Bill O’Reilly show tomorrow night as he reads those emails verbatim on the air. 😛
Is this only for the no annual fee MileagePlus Card or for all cards, ie Explorer, Club?
I assume this is also valid for the UA Business Explorer.
Nice promo. I won a similar one years ago 100k UA. It had extra entries for each transaction through the UA shopping portal.

the extra 7500 check is included in the grand prize hence the 27500 valuation
