Video Shows Why Passengers Applauded a Diversion to Oklahoma City

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Great values redeeming Hyatt points for premium suites this is an underappreciated aspect of the program.

  • Starting today and running through June 26 converting Marriott points into Aeroplan miles will receive a 35% bonus. Deals like this were more broadly useful when Starwood Marriott points were earned more quickly via credit card. Still lots of you have large balances, and Aeroplan has a reasonable award chart and access to Star Alliance flights.

  • Supermodel apologizes for ‘racist’ airport lounge photo. I like the idea that putting your feet up is racist I now have a new reason to tell people not to put their bare feet up on the bulkhead.

  • Boom Supersonic pushes back when it expects to fly

  • A laptop overheated, the TSA told everyone to run, and passengers were stuck outside the airport interminably without any information. (HT: Reid F.)

  • American Airlines passengers actually applauded being diverted to Oklahoma City to drop off a drunk passenger.

  1. Yeah, yeah premium suites. Half of Hyatt’s website incorrectly reports swanky suites as “premium suites” – look at GH Tokyo’s “Presidential Suite.” I’m totally sure that’s a premium suite.

I called out HR London out for labeling their “Royal Suite” a premium suite. I got some nasty response from the hotel, and no apology for the misinformation. I think pumping this benefit without reporting the hazards is a disservice to readers.

  2. OMG and look at the article! The first property that guy tried was mislabeled as a “premium suite”, as well. But because he had a thesis to support, he went on to find something else and discarded that (surprisingly frequent) data point.

I’m telling you: false advertising for this benefit.

  3. Uh, Christian, last I heard, Arabic is not synonymous with Islamic. Showing the soles of your feet is insulting in Arabic culture, not in the Islamic religion. It is not an issue in Indonesia, for example.

  4. @farnorthtrader – At least in the US, the two are pretty much synonymous, even though it’s incorrect. Nonetheless, I should not have made that mistake. Thanks for alleviating misconceptions.
