News and notes from around the interweb:
- Make. It. Stop. Why airlines make you gate check bags when there’s still plenty of available overhead bin space.

- New London Hyatt has 91 square foot rooms which is smaller than my freshman dorm. I’ve never stayed in smaller hotel rooms than at Hyatt Herald Square and this is half the size.
- Forty rare animals stuffed in a trolley bag found in Bengaluru airport (HT: Enilria)
- La-Z-Boy has a new ad campaign about banning inflight seat recline.
- We’ll see if this changes with a new administration.

- “Great news!”
Carry-on suitcases and trunks are the largest and heaviest fool things ever .
The second dumbest fool thing are emotional support animals .
The third dumbest fool thing is sloppy clothes combined with rap music .
Fun fact. A prisoner on death row is recommended to have 100 square feet for their cell. But they will spend more time in the room.
It all comes down to getting flights out on time so by forcing people in later boarding groups to gate check bags that will ensure the flight isn’t delayed as people try to swim up stream with a bag with no pin space. So pick your poison. Forced gate checking of bags or flights being delayed which means potential misconnects (because so many people will book a 35-45 minute connection) or getting to where you’re going later.
I agree with Lay-Z-Boy about seat recline on domestic flights in the USA. Have a limited amount of preset recline but no mechanism to change the recline, the same as seats that would partially block exit rows. It will make the seats less complicated and less likely to be broken. They will probably also be stronger. The conflicts arising from seats being reclined such as spilled drinks and damaged electronics would go away.
@jns … No more reclining for you .
Have pax pay for carryon. When all space sold have to check.
Neck supports in seats are standard heights and do not allow a shorter person to rest their head back. Impossible to sleep because their heads are constantly rolling forward. Tilting the seat back prevents that.
Because half the passengers can’t lift their bag over their head. Maybe it’s time for women to have to weigh their bag, or demonstrate their can lift it. Enough is enough, Ive watched too many idiotic scenes where her bag won’t fit as 2 men work to place it somewhere. All the while she laughs about it.
Maybe if the men on the plane didn’t insist on putting both their bags in the overhead space, there would be room for everyone’s bag. I board early and watch, it’s always the guys ignoring the instruction that one goes under the seat.
