From Austin To LA And Back: Exploring The Delta Difference In Coach, First Class, And Airport Lounges

Feb 10 2024

Earlier in the month I flew to LA as a favor to Peter Greenberg, to speak at the Travel Adventure Show. I flew out on a Saturday, back Sunday. I didn’t want to leave too early, since I didn’t actually need to speak until Sunday, and wanted to fly back as quickly as possible after I was done. United, American, Southwest and Delta all operate the Austin – Los Angles route and both ways Delta had the schedule that worked best for me.

No Service In First Class: American Airlines Flight Attendants Glued to Phones Amidst Service Slump

Feb 09 2024

United Airlines has been warning flight attendants not to have their face in their phones. It’s bad for customer service, and ostensibly cabin crew are there to be paying attention to safety not Candy Crush.

I have seen no such warning memos from American. I have, however, heard flight attendants talk to each other about performing the minimum required service because of contract negotiations that are dragging on.

Congressman Matt Gaetz Stopped At DFW Airport With A Taser

Feb 09 2024

Congressman Matt Gaetz was stopped at a Dallas – Fort Worth airport TSA checkpoint, where he was found to be carrying a taser. He said he forgot he had it on him, and it was taken and thrown away.

The Secret Behind Southwest’s Slim Seats: Extra Legroom Seats, A Move Away From Open Seating?

Feb 09 2024

Last week Southwest Airlines unveiled images of its new cabin and seats. It was striking that these seats look thin and not well padded – a genuine downgrade from the older tan seats that are still flying and even less comfortable than the seats in the 737 MAX 8 today.

They’re not adding more seats to the planes. So what are they doing with the extra room they create?

Earning on the Edge: Are Bilt Rewards New Milestone Rewards Truly Worth It?

Feb 09 2024

IHG and Hyatt both offer “Milestone Rewards.” American’s concept is “Loyalty Point Rewards,” formerly called “Loyalty Choice Rewards.” Of these, Hyatt was first. They award benefits for progress as you progress through the program, not just on achieving status tiers. That makes earning your next award closer than before, more accessible and keeps members wanting more because the next thing is achievable.

Bilt Rewards has introduced its own Milestone Rewards.

Succession For Poor People: The Pilot Calls Passengers At Home Before Flying LA’s Tiniest Airline

Feb 08 2024

What’s it like to fly the smallest commercial plane out of Los Angeles? Eli McCann bought his $100 ticket and boarded a plane with just a few other people – cramped, but cozy, “Succession, but for poor people.” The pilot gave the safety briefing, asking passengers not to leave barf bags on the plane. And he ran an icebreaker for everyone on board to get to know each other.
