News and notes from around the interweb:
- DCA Tower replaces paper flight strips with electronic. The FAA has been trying to go electronic since 1983 and won’t get most of the way there until the 2030s.
Wait until you explain paper flight strips!https://t.co/fyU7aSILWr pic.twitter.com/gOBIHME3oK

- Woman’s flight is boarding, she’s filming a TikTok dance move in the airport bathroom. And her phone falls in the toilet.
@briannamoralesx I couldn’t make this up if I tried
- I have serious concerns for the mental health of Selena Gomez. She’s not even praising DFW terminal D, which is nice enough. She’s literally getting hot and bothered over E satellite. (Whataburger is at E27.)
If I’m at the Dallas airport, I like to take my time… It’s just.. I mean, Whataburger, they have the best restaurants. It doesn’t even feel like you’re at an airport… I just want to spend time there.
DFW airport is pretty awesome if you’re a Foodie. Thanks for the love @selenagomez pic.twitter.com/yMOOuRwOx0

- Southwest Airlines cockpit culture… taxiing so fast other airlines make fun of them.
KLM pilot questions Lufthansa's taxi speed; another pilot adds, "Unless you're Southwest, of course." pic.twitter.com/LOg5BtJxpO

- American increased its second checked bag fee for short haul if you don’t prepay online. I would almost never prepay a second checked bag. You’d need to be pretty sure you’re traveling with a second checked bag!

- “You WILL get reported. And you WILL probably lose your job.” Even if you plan to file a complaint about a customer service interaction, telling the person you want help from that’s your plan isn’t likely to get you the help you are looking for.
Idk who needs to hear this, but departure time is not arrival time ♥️ pic.twitter.com/0roXn2EWzf

- David Flueck, ex-Starwood who led Marriott Bonvoy since launch, leaves to become Chief Customer Officer of Alterra – combining loyalty with his love of outdoors.

I retired from a 30,000 hr flying career and was only purposely cut off on a taxiway by another airliner twice. Both times it was SWA. Same airport, same area. They are told to hold short for another company perpendicular to their position and a few hundred yards away (it’s typically how departure spacing is sorted) and instead they pull out up front of the plane (me) they are supposed to follow and ask the tower “I’m sorry, you were stepped on, did you call SWA?”
Their company culture of saving time caused numerous incidents, the most spectacular would likely be the high speed expedition into a gas station off the end of the runway at Burbank, due to landing long and fast in an attempt to save a few minutes.
A friend was on Southwest Airlines Flight 1455. She told of climbing out on the wing and jumping down to get away from the airplane after the crash.
@jns — That’s the one that almost hit a gas station… yikes.
I too am a huge fan of DFW. But also IAD so what do I know haha
@1990 – Hope this latest winter storm doesn’t affect your travel plans!
