Tumi doesn’t often run site-wide across-the-board sales. It’s expensive luggage, but it’s the archetypal bag for the business traveler. People love their Tumi bags, and they usually pay full price unless they’re just taking whatever’s on clearance.

Thanks for the heads-up. I know a couple of folks who might jump at this. Must confess I was a Tumi person years ago but found that not only are they over-priced (IMHO) for what you get but also they are not more durable or lighter than many great alternatives. My preferred carry-on that has never been denied boarding (even on QF’s quite restrictive domestic services) is the North Face Overhaul 40 backpack. It opens all the way TSA friendly, is relatively light, has a lifetime warranty (I got my current one FREE over a very minor issue with my original 8 year old bag) and it has a real harness. You can get one for about $160 at REI or TNF website.
Gary — might be a good time to do an update on what bags and accessories like wallets you use. I seem to remember something about the brand Tom Bihn but that was years ago.

I love the organization of my Tumi expandable carryon bag, but it isn’t holding up. After 3 years, the nylon is shredding in a key place. My wife’s bag had major damage, and the service was awful. There prices went up so much that it cost $400 to replace it with a similar bag after the credit. I’ve switched to Briggs and Riley. Tumi – limited 5 year warranty. Briggs and Riley, lifetime warranty..
TUMI lost me when they refused to honor their warranty for my brother. I replaced my luggage set with Briggs instead of tumi. They will never get a dime from me or my family again. My friends switched to Briggs as well and couldn’t be happier.
I’ve always bought TravelPro because that’s what the crews usually have. I figured they must be really durable. Am I missing out by not using Tumi?
I remember once buying a Tumi bag from Nordstorm which was on sale for 10% off but also had a click through of 36 Avios / dollar. It turned out to be almost 50% off depending on what value you assign to Avios.
just bought a logan backpack last nught after getting the tumi edm. had kept it on watch list for more than 3 months as it was not on last black Friday’s clearance. the saving of $130 makes the waiting much worthwhile. and with cashback web, there was a further 4% discount to make the final price less than $500 and hence well affordable…

Unfortunately my Tumi bags seem to be very popular among Thieves at American Airlines, Aegean, Turkish, Air France, Alitalia and Singapore Airlines. I have had my luggage stolen several times during these past few years. It is also impossible to get a refund from any of these airlines. So, I am going to carry super cheap bags. Although I beg the customer service agents not to check my bag, but somehow they tell me that my bag is too heavy or too big which it is, because normally I am gone for periods of one to two months … and it gets lost/stolen.. or I have had TSA go inside my bag, leave a note (Standard form) and take my expensive Gucci Sunglasses out of my bag or other items…
For these prices, you’d think you are buying quality. You are not. Will never buy tumi again after having a bag fall apart with limited use and receive no warranty support. Their claimed lifetime warranty is total bs. Just do a quick Google search.
Hasn’t Tumi quality taken a downward turn since being acquired by Samsonite? You’d think that would be enough of a red flag for people.
Tumi is no longer worth the money it costs and the warranty that’s no longer lifetime. Better to buy Briggs & Riley — more effective luggage itself (especially the compression function on its carry-ons), lifetime warranty, higher quality (I’d argue).
