As airlines move away from inflight alcohol to save money, soft drink selection takes on greater importance.
Earlier in the month I reported that American would transition from Sierr Mist to Sprite products throughout June.
For domestic flights and for international flights departing the U.S. there appear to be ‘supply chain issues’. Flight attendants have been told that while “[o]n June 1, we began transitioning from Sierra Mist to Sprite” individual flights now may have either one but not both. While they haven’t fully transitioned they’re careful not to be mixing brands.
Furthermore, where Sprite products are featured, until early July “Sprite may be substituted for Sprite Zero.” They may not have any Sprite Zero and are loading Sprite instead.
I’m actually grateful that supply chains have been less interrupted than they have been during the pandemic – toilet paper, hand sanitizer, meat – but to American’s credit their lavatories have continued to be stocked with toilet paper. If all they’re unable to source is Sprite Zero, then, there’s little grounds for complaint.
I have to say I don’t recall ever seeing anybody order Sprite or Sierra Mist on any airline
@ Gary — Slow news day? 🙂
@Gary – Even our local big box stores have not had Sprite Zero for a few weeks, so it’s not just AA.
This story on AA is the equivalent of discussing the menus of the Titanic on its last day sailing the sea.
For a legacy carrier that has devolved its domestic first food service to less than Guantanamo fare–well before The Wuhan Virus hit, their is no relevance to whether they offer Sprite or Sierra Mist, especially when limes are typically ’86’ due to lackadaisical catering.
To ’86’ liquor due to Wuhan Virus is false. Instead, it’s simply about cutting costs–all at the expense of the customer. Catering offers many opportunities to prevent just killing the service if only the corporate officers of AA had a genuine interest. Given the less than prison level of food before the Wuhan Virus hit, let alone now, a hard drink was critical to ensure the esophagus did not get plugged up.
@Mark – “Wuhan Virus”? What are you talking about?
@ Mark — Now there is a Wuhan virus in addition to COVID-19? Is the US the world leader in Wuhan cases, too?
@Jason
The Wuhan originated Coronavirus (COVID-19). There has been some reports it may have been around as early as summer 2019. Did it mutate into a deadlier strain. Nothing is conclusive. We don’t know the truth because China of course won’t tell us or doesn’t know itself.
Wow! Not being able to get Sprite Zero means supply chains are breaking down? This is @lucky type click bait.
I was looking for diet caffeine free Mt Dew at Target and by chance the representative was stocking the shelf so I asked about it and he said they’ve stopped making some of the less popular flavors till the end of summer at least. This could explain the shortage of Sprite Zero.
