Earn Triple Starbucks Stars Or More.. Free Drinks and Starbucks Elite Status

I have a certain amount of discomfort in admitting this, most of all to myself. I do drink more than my share of coffee generally, and in a pinch (especially when the next-best option is in-room coffee with packaged creamer) I’ll wind up drinking more Starbucks than I care to admit.

What’s more, Starbucks turns out to be one of the most popular things I write about. I’d like to say it’s award redemption, travel tips, something about earning miles. But I still pick up probably 1000 page views a day off of a six week old post on earning free Starbucks stars.

Truth is, it seems, credit towards free drinks is what people want — even more than travel!

I really do write whatever is on my mind, whatever seems interesting to me at the moment, but I feel like I have an important relationship with my readers and so I try to give advice and pass along opportunities that I think will be useful, too.

Hence, of late:

I’m not entirely proud of this.

And yet, it’s worth knowing about the Starbucks Summer Star Dash.

They’re giving out triple Stars – or more – through May 27 based on the number of Stars you earn. (I’m really not sure how I didn’t know about this over the past 10 days that the promotion has been live.)

The number of credits you earn between May 14 and May 27 determines whether you earn bonus stars, and the number you earn. You’ll receive an email by June 6 with a code to redeem your bonus stars.

Eight purchases yields 28 total stars. Bear in mind that 30 stars earns Gold status, and once Gold, 12 Stars is a free drink.

Two key pieces of advice:

  1. Don’t forget to load your Starbucks app with Starbucks gift cards purchased at office supply stores in order to earn 5 points per dollar on your coffee.

  • And perhaps most importantly, make sure to pay for each item you buy at Starbucks as a separate transaction. Starbucks Stars are awarded per transaction not based on the number of items you buy or the amount you spend. Buying two coffees? If you buy them separately you earn two stars. If you pay for them together you earn only one.(HT: Points, Miles, & Martinis)

Update: Please see the comments. This may be targeted. In which case I apologize.

  1. Gary – these periodic Starbucks promos are all targeted. This is not a general promotion open to all. If you didn’t get the specifically-targeted email, you don’t qualify.

  2. @Necessary Indulgences – crud. The ones I’ve posted before, those were mostly open to all. Since the other blog didn’t say it was targeted, and the link to the offer from Starbucks didn’t say anything about being targeted, I guess I was taken in before I had had my coffee this morning. I apologize.

  3. Or by brewing my own coffee I save about $1000/year, which @ 1 CPM is enough for round trip to Asia in CX J. Decisions, decisions.

  4. elsewhere, it shows different qualifying numbers for the promo…so you knows, eg targeted, real numbers or what
