Marriott Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador members receive free Cathay Pacific silver status for a year.

This also comes with a challenge to Cathay Pacific Gold status (oneworld sapphire for lounge access, including American Airlines Flagship lounge access on domestic trips).

  • Normally Gold requires 600 status credits in a membership year
  • But this lets you earn it with 300 status credits in 12 months
  • So it’s a 50% reduction in what it takes to qualify for Gold, though Cathay’s normal status requirements are hefty so this will have limited appeal.

Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific Silver, Gold and Diamond members receive Marriott Gold which gets you 2 p.m. late check-out at most hotels.

Then there’s a challenge to Marriott Platinum: stay 10 nights in six months to unlock the status, and also earn 3,000 bonus points. The key benefits here are 4 p.m. late check-out, the occasional upgrade, and lounge access or breakfast at most brands.

  2. My attempt to do the match didn’t work. The Cathay page said, “error – please contact Marriott.” Maybe because my platinum elite status with Marriott will be downgraded to Gold in March. I don’t know ‍♀️

  9. Did it really ever work for anyone? I got the “error” message yesterday and today it says “registration closed.” Seems like it was never happening anyway.
