In March I wrote to expect Lufthansa to introduce a new first and business class product next year and that first class would be suites with doors initially on the airline’s 10 new Airbus A350-900 aircraft to be based in Munich.
We now know a bit more about the products. The new first class:
- Will have “nearly ceiling-high walls” and privacy doors
- 3.25 foot width
- No backward-facing seats
- Supports dining together with another passenger
- Entertainment screens “extend across the full width of the suite, with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones.”
- “Large, personal wardrobe in every suite.”
- Space large and private enough so that passengers can “remain in their suite as they prepare for sleep and change into Lufthansa First Class pajamas.”

We do not know for certain whether there will be one or two rows of first class on the A350. Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8 aircraft should receive a retrofit to this new first class eventually as well and will almost certainly lose first class seats in the process.
Business class will also feature direct aisle lie flat seats with 3.75 foot doors and 17 inch entertainment screens. It will be in an alternating 1-1-1 and 1-2-1 configuration. Like many other airlines in a new trend, the bulkhead row one will be a more spacious premium product.
Economy, meanwhile, will offer extra legroom seating at the front of the cabin and an option for a paid blocked middle seat as well as “Sleeper’s Row 2.0” with fold up leg rest.
Ultimately none of this will be world-leading but all of this seems quite good.
Looks like a down sized cop of SQ, but what the heck, it’s still good!
@ Coming to an aircraft near you by 2027…
Actually looks more than pretty good. But – and its a big but with LH – lets see the execution.
Business class with walls… as compared to what? just a chair? No shit sherlock J class has walls… Perhaps the word you’re looking for is door? Privacy partition?
