News and notes from around the interweb:
- One of the best ways to increase your credit card spending is paying bills with Plastiq such as your rent or mortgage. They charge your credit card and, for a fee, mail a check.
They’ve increased their referral offers — if you sign up and then refer someone, you’ll earn $1,000 in free payments (waived processing fees for $1000) when the person you refer makes a payment. The person you refer will get processing fees waived for $500 in payments.
I thought this might be a targeted or limited-time offer, but they tell me “it’s our new referral program”
- Bangkok isn’t totally banning street food, but.. reducing the number and regulating their practices will alter the character and dynamism that has made Bangkok one of the best street food cities in the world.
“(The plan) is not to totally take away street food from Bangkok streets, but there are some reasons and some places that will be reorganized,” TAT governor Uthasak Supasorn said in a statement
Even before the confusing back-and-forth, the city has been methodically evicted about 15,000 food vendors.
…The government’s confusing stance on street vendors doesn’t surprise travel writer Gary Leff. “Nothing is ever quite what it seems in Thai politics,” said Leff.
- With Emirates struggling on U.S. routes due to the hostile travel environment for many of its passengers coming to the U.S., the electronics ban, and significant competition from Qatar and a more aggressive Air India, the Skywards program is offering a big bonus for residents of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka flying to the U.S. — 10,000 miles roundtrip for economy and 15,000 for premium cabins (half the miles for one ways). Registration required. (HT: Live from a Lounge)

Lim had told me that Singapore holds a strategic sand reserve, for emergencies. It lies somewhere in the area called Bedok, he said. I spotted it one day as I rode past in a taxi. The site was strewn with No Trespassing signs installed by the Housing and Development Board, a government agency. Fenced off from the public, the giant trapezoidal dunes shone bone-white in the sun and caramel in the shade, as the sand waited to be summoned.

Anyone have an opinion on what do they think the easier award would be to get for late June, ANA in First for NYC to Singapore via NRT using virgin atlantic points or SQ NYC-SIN via Fra in suites? I gotta move my points and not sure which one is more likely to open up more award space close in. I’d love to do ANA because it be a lot cheaper with the amex bonus but availability looks tight.
This is awesome!
