News notes from around the interweb:
- Banned Air New Zealand flyer will have to pay the carrier $20,000 she brought 6 kids into the lounge when she got only one guest, and things went down hill from there.
A South Island lawyer has been ordered to pay Air New Zealand $30,000 after losing a court battle over her travel prohibition with the national carrier and a Koru lounge spat.
- Park Hyatt Zanzibar Royal Residence For 30,000 Points Per Night
Credit: Park Hyatt Zanzibar - After staying at Marriott’s Autograph Collection Williamsburg Lodge, Zach Honig will always bring his own toiletries rather than trust the wall-mounted dreck.
If you’ve stayed at a handful of hotels over the last few years, there’s a good chance you’ve seen a setup like this. In a bid to reduce waste (and expenses), many hotel chains are embracing reusable toiletry dispensers. I fully support reducing our footprint, but I’ve often encountered empty dispensers, or, in the case of the Williamsburg Lodge, two of the three “topped off” with water, instead of refilled with soap and conditioner. Considering the hotel’s refill “solution,” and the cleanliness concerns that followed, I was left wishing I had brought my own toiletries and decided I’m going to make that a priority for future stays.

- Emirates President Tim Clark again denies the evergreen rumor that it will merge with Etihad.
- I don’t expect Richard Branson will ever take us there, but this is what Mars looks like once you arrive.
I avoid Autograph Collection and similar independent hotels, they tend to be rough around the edges as Mr. Honig experienced.
A really good independent hotel does not need affiliation with a big chain or a rewards program.
Enough already with the paranoia surrounding soap dispensers in hotel rooms.
What do you do in a public restroom? On an airplane?
GMAB.
Gary- why don’t you go scuba diving to see what your compulsion for single-use toiletries is doing to our only world.
@MM I scuba dive and you will delighted to hear that single use toiletries have no effect on the oceans. Irresponsible people and governments do.
Keep your chlamydia toiletries — we’ll keep single use.
@Gary: RE: Banned Passenger. keep that entitled cow off any plane. She clearly cannot control herself and poses a danger to the travelling public.
Agree with @L3. Why such a short ban? She should be banned for life from that airline, and all lounges worldwide.
Seems weird the bully lady wouldn’t have lounge access on a domestic connection before an international flight in business class. Assuming all her kids were also flying up front. At the same time, she sounds awful and should be banned by the airline. Not sure what that big fine is all about, though. Paying court fees for her lost case? The article doesn’t make it clear.
