Cathay Pacific Credit Card Increases Bonus, Adds First Year Fee Waiver for Limited Time

Cathay Pacific launched its new US credit card back in February. It’s issued by Synchrony Bank.

Initially the signup bonus on the card was 25,000 points after $2500 spend within 90 days for this $95 annual fee card. In late summer they ran a 50,000 point signup offer.

Today they launched a new offer for the card which bonuses all foreign transaction spend: 35,000 miles after $2500 spend within 90 days and a $0 annual fee the first year.

Travel Companies are Running Scared of What’s on Their Websites Because China

IHG Rewards Club has issued an update to its terms and conditions. And there’s only one change, repeated a few times in a few different ways. They want to make very sure you know that Taiwan is part of ‘Greater China’.

China’s civil aviation authority demanded a public apology from Delta and changes to its website for listing Tibet and Taiwan as countries.

Fare Alert: Business Class Roundtrip to Singapore Less Than $2000

Star Alliance airlines ANA and United — with flights within North America sometimes on Air Canada — are offering business class roundtrips between Toronto or Vancouver and Singapore for less than $2000.

It’s a great opportunity to see Singapore, one of my favorite cities — or to use it as a jumping off point for visiting other cities in Asia. And the deal is good enough that it may make sense to position to Canada for this fare.

RUMOR: Cathay Pacific Cancels Dine on Demand in Business Class, Introducing Buy On Board in Coach

Cathay Pacific is reportedly cancelling its planned roll out of ‘dine on demand’ in business class and introducing ‘buy on board’ meals on some shorter economy flights in place of complimentary food.

Flight crew hated having to offer dine on demand, and charging for food in economy means big cost savings boarding far fewer meals on flights like Hong Kong – Manila and overnight flights to North Asia.

Oddly though his primary air travel safety initiative — spinning off air traffic control into an independent non-profit corporation, separating out regulation from the actual provision of air traffic services, an ICAO best practice the US currently fails to follow — failed to gain traction in 2017.

United Failed to Open a Single Polaris Lounge in 2017, and Stops Promising When We’ll See Another

United’s Polaris lounge in Chicago is so far the only new business class lounge United has opened. No Polaris lounge opened in 2017.

United updates us again and no longer promises any delivery date for future lounges on its Polaris Tracker website. They merely list San Francisco, Newark, and Houston as ‘under construction’ with the rest ‘in planning’.
