Here’s a video of a China Southern Boeing 737-800 being struck by lightning — minutes after passengers had disembarked the aircraft.

The video was taken at Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport in China, a four and a half year old airport with over 3 million annual passengers — served mostly by Chinese domestic airlines, but with service from Jetstar Asia, AirAsia, and Thai AirAsia.

What Cities Are Getting the Most New Airline Traffic — and Which are Shrinking the Most

Airline traffic is growing worldwide. As populations and economics grow, the need to keep them connected only gets stronger. And buoyed by low fuel prices, the economics of routes that didn’t make sense just a few years ago have changed to at least encourage airlines to try new places to fly where they wouldn’t have taken the risk in the past.

As a result most cities are seeing increased air service. In fact, 94 of the 100 busiest airports grew the number of available seats year-over-year.

The CEO Who Lets You Earn Miles for All Spending at the Airport

I’ve gotten value from ‘Thanks Again’ earning miles at brick and mortar retailers when I didn’t expect it. They’ve given me signup bonuses, and mileage-earning with them has counted towards larger partner bonus promotions. But I realized I didn’t actually understand their business model as they’ve moved from local dry cleaners and spas a decade ago to near total penetration across large US airports.

So I spoke with their CEO Marc Ellis, who explained a lot about the business that surprised me, and also shared that people are earning a lot more miles than I thought.

Don’t Do This When Going Through Immigration and Customs

A passenger once left something in a British Airways lavatory so horrible the plane had to turn around and go back to Heathrow.

On the other end of the spectrum, a different passenger once left 24 gold bars in the lavatory of a Jet Airways flight. They were found when the aircraft was being cleaned in Kolkata. And it proved to the world that Jet Airways does, in fact, clean their lavatories.
