Giveaway: 5 Nights in a Suite in Sri Lanka Plus Dinner and Massages
I love Sri Lanka. And since I’ve been to the Maldives each of the past 5 years, it’s been easy to visit, as the capital Colombo is less than 500 miles away. There is no such thing as bad Sri Lankan food and I even go out of my way to stop for Sri Lankan when flying out of New York JFK.
A reader is going to win a 5 night stay in a suite inclusive of a dinner, massages, and even cooking class. And all you need to do to enter is comment in this post, see inside for details.
New 30% Discount on Buying Starwood Points Through July 1
Starwood is offering a 30% discount on purchase of Starpoints through July 1.
This is tied for the second biggest discount I’ve ever seen on Starwood Starpoints, which I believe is the most valuable currency (one point is worth more than one of any other point). The ‘regular’ discount that Starwood runs occasionally is 25%. Last month for the first time they ran 35% off for co-brand credit card holders.
Here’s what you can do with this offer.
Review: Emirates First Class A380, Houston – Dubai
I’ve been remiss in writing the details of my trip to the Mideast and Asia redeeming miles for first class on the Airbus A380s of all 3 of the big Gulf carriers: Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar.
It’s was a great quick trip to eat in Bangkok and see the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, and I’m determined to return to sharing it with you.
United On Verge Of Completing Its 2010 Merger With Continental (Finally!)
United and Continental merged in 2010, with Continental management eventually taking over, but six years later that merger is still not complete.
Legacy United and Continental flight attendants still do not have a single contract, and as a result United flight attendants work United planes and Continental flight attendants work Continental planes — and new aircraft get split between them.
Woman Gives Birth on Saudia Flight, Gets Free Flight for Her Family (But Still Can’t Drive)
Saudia’s flight SV21 from Jeddah to New York JFK yesterday declared an emergency as it was about to head out over the Atlantic Ocean. It dumped fuel and then turned around for London Heathrow because a female passenger was going into childbirth.
No doctors had been onboard the flight, so flight attendants helped with the delivering “after arranging a discreet corner in the plane.”
Singapore Announces Real Details of Their New US Flights (and Dropping of an A380)
This morning word leaked that Singapore Airlines would be announcing non-stop service between San Francisco and Singapore with an Airbus A350. That’s true.
But there are several new details that are known, and even the launch of an additional new route — and a route that’s losing the Airbus A380 in the process.
Singapore Airlines Expected to Announce San Francisco – Singapore Non-stop Service This Week!
United has started to fly San Francisco – Singapore non-stop with a Boeing 787-9. It’s a directly blow against erstwhile partner Singapore Airlines.
Now Singapore is apparently going to announce a return to the U.S. two years early with San Francisco – Singapore non-stop service.
British Airways, Cathay Pacific and oneworld Have Found a New Way to Screw Customers
The oneworld alliance no longer requires to through-check luggage onto partner airlines when passengers are traveling on more than one reservation.
Cathay Pacific has announced that they are not only ending through-checked luggage on separate reservations, they are going a step further and will no longer provide protection during irregular operations to passengers traveling on two different reservations.
Airlines Will No Longer Have to Through-check Bags on Separate Bookings in oneworld Alliance
Effective June 1 oneworld airlines no longer are required to interline bags (or even check you in for connecting flights) when traveling on separate reservations. This is a hugely-unfriendly move.
Here’s what it means for your travel and why it’s happening.
