British Airways Pre-Order Meals, Copying American and Rolling Out Next Week

First discussed over the summer, British Airways pre order meals are rolling out. According to Flyertalk the British Airways pre order meals program begins November 18, taking meals for flights December 1 onward, and the offering will be available in premium economy and not just business and first class. Customers can simply select their meal from 30 days before their flight departs, right up to 24 hours prior to take-off through the ‘manage my booking’ tool on ba.com. The pre-order service will initially be available on flights between Heathrow and Las Vegas, Phoenix, Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver, Dallas and Seattle, with more routes to be added in early 2015. This Works Just Like American Airlines Pre-Order We may not usually think of American Airlines as a global leader, but they remain the only U.S. airline…

The Insider Scoop on Starwood’s New “Your World Rewards”

The new Starwood Emirates partnership has just gone live: Your World Rewards Details on the Starwood Emirates Partnership A week ago part of the story leaked early when a Starwood website went up with the information unintentionally. What they’re doing with Emirates is very similar to Starwood’s partnership with Delta, Crossover Rewards (minus the upgrades; complimentary domestic or short haul ugprades are very much an American concept). Here are the specifics:. Starwood Gold and Platinum members receive 1 Starpoint per US dollar spent when flying Emirates in (in addition to miles earned for the flight itself). Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold, and Platinum members earn 1 bonus Skywards point per US dollar spent when staying with Starwood (in addition to the SPG points earned for the stay). Starwood Platinums receive elite priority check-in and boarding with…

Claims About Flight Attendants I Wish Were True

A piece in the Daily Mail claimed that there’s only one hotel in Nairobi that they can put crew up in, and that the hotel has so many complaints about raucous flight attendants that they’re at risk of losing their contract. Thus BA is going to have to stop flying to Nairobi unless their flight attendants become less wild. It’s a three year old article that came across my Facebook feed this morning. British Airways bosses fear having to scrap lucrative flights because of mounting complaints about raucous cabin crew parties at luxury hotels. Topless air hostesses and champagne-fuelled pool parties have prompted a flood of protests about wild behaviour. Now BA has warned its captains to control their crews during overnight stops – or the airline may be forced to abandon at least one…

A Totally New Award Chart Coming to a Star Alliance Amex Membership Rewards Partner: The Good and the Bad

Yesterday commenter TJ flagged that ANA is introducing a new zone-based award chart effective April 12. The only problem is that I haven’t found an English-version of the announcement, and have been on travel and time-constrained. We care because ANA: Is a Star Alliance member, so their miles can be used on a variety of partner flights Their website is in general the best for booking Star Alliance awards, showing award space on on all Star partners. They are an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner, so lots of US folks have access to their miles. The current distance-based award chart has some fantastic values. Fortunately both Travel is Free and Points with a Crew are unpacking what the changes mean. Bottom-line is that at the margin there will be some great values that disappear,…

The Very Best Travel Tips and Tricks in the Past Month

Here are the best travel tips and tricks, the highlights of View from the Wing posts from September. Last month I summarized the very best travel posts from September and the previous month, from August. In July the most useful and interesting developments from June. I also wrote a post with the most useful advice I’ve given, overall. It turns out, surprisingly, that this feature is really popular, at least judging by the emails I get — people that don’t read the blog every day really appreciated the recap and not having to dig through all of the posts to find the most enduring ones. These are some that were my favorites from October. I hope you were happy with some of the posts and got something out of them as well. Award Redemption The…

HUGE Aeroplan Award Pricing “Sale” BOOK NOW! GO!

Aeroplan has imposed a new, more restrictive pricing system for award travel. But there’s apparently an interesting situation that’s arisen, maybe they want to make things go down a bit more smoothly with the introduction of these new rules! Every award is pricing based on the first stopover you book. If you stopover domestically, you can travel anywhere in the world for the cost of a domestic award. First class to Europe? South America? No problem, just pay the domestic award price.

Review: Park Hyatt Buenos Aires.. and Great Elite Recognition!

You’ll Also Want to Be Sure to Read: American Airlines Flagship Lounge, New York JFK American Airlines First Class, New York JFK – Buenos Aires The Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is a great city hotel, set in an upscale neighbor apart from the hustle and bustle of the city and just a few blocks from the Four Seasons. Service is excellent, and it’s a great value to stay there as a Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond member especially when cash and points is available. My Park Hyatt Buenos Aires review begins with arrival at the property. There are two separate buildings, connected via underground walkway or outside through the garden. There’s the original Palacio and there’s a new tower. I came in through the historic wing, which is their main reception though the building has only…

Who Wins — and Who Loses — With the American-US Airways Mileage Program Integration That’s Just Been Announced?

On net I think the details of how American AAdvantage 2015 plans to combine with US Airways Dividend Miles in the second quarter of 2015 is the best possible outcome we could reasonably have expected. I did expect that the combined program would have 4 elite tiers (as US Airways has today, and as both Delta and United have as well) and would move to a system of unlimited complimentary upgrades or all members (though I don’t think that system is better for lower tier elites, because it pushes down their success in actually getting upgrades — a system that has them ration when they request upgrades means they are more likely to get upgrades when they do request it). As far as what could have happened — award chart increases, going revenue-based like United…
