Hotel Cancels All Summer Reservations To Take More Lucrative Bookings, Hilton Shrugs

The Hilo, Hawaii DoubleTree ownership says on video they went ahead and rented out all rooms at the property under an event contract instead, of honoring bookings, redemption or paid, calling it a “windfall.”

Hilton responded letting me know that the hotel “is an independently owned and operated property” so they “cannot speak on the hotel’s behalf.”

Two Women Ejected From Hawaii, Sent To Los Angeles To Get New Negative Covid-19 Tests

Hawaii requires a negative Covid test presented on arrival, or else you have to go into quarantine. But not any test will do, for instance if you got your test at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic that won’t be accepted because Hawaii only accepts tests on its list of trusted testing partners.

Except that isn’t really true, because there are several tests Hawaii accepts which aren’t on the list. So you might forgive two young women who flew from Raleigh to Hawaii with their negative test results in hand – only to discover that the results wouldn’t be accepted because they weren’t from a provider on Hawaii’s list.

Maui Will Require Second Covid Test On Arrival Starting Later This Month

All arrivals from outside the state will have to undergo a rapid test at the airport or go into 10-day quarantine. That’s in addition to the required test 72 hours prior to travel, and regardless of vaccination status (even as the state has discussed proof of vaccination in lieu of testing).

The specific date this will begin hasn’t announced yet, noting that it will take ‘at least 10 working days’ to get the program up and running, but it’s expected to start prior to end of April.

The United Airlines ‘Halfway To Hawaii’ Game Is Back, With A New Prize

Up through 2014 most United Airlines flights to Hawaii featured the “Halfway to Hawaii game” where you could win a bottle of champagne. Passengers would be invited to guess the exact time they’d be halfway across the ocean to Hawaii. Some would just take a close enough guess by listening to the pilot’s announced flight time, cutting it in half, and adding that to the departure time. Others took it as a more complex math problem.

The game is back – and starting March 3 there’s a new prize.

Man Forced To Return To Los Angeles After Hawaii Rejects His Mayo Clinic Covid-19 Test

Hawaii requires a negative Covid-19 test in order to avoid 14 day quarantine on arrival. But the process is cumbersome, error-prone, and anything but transparent.

One family was forced to split up, with the husband flying back across the ocean to Los Angeles to get a new test,, after a night spent in a rental car when Hawaii rejected his negative Covid-19 assessment from the world-famous Mayo Clinic.
