Between January 7 and March 31 American is offering bonus miles to promote their new premium domestic product that will eventually serve New York JFK to both Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The first new plane begins on the JFK – Los Angeles route on January 7. So this bonus promotes the JFK-Los Angeles flights. (JFK-San Francisco begins to get the new plane in March.)
American’s new international business class aboard the 777-300ER is outstanding. We’ll begin to see the new seat on the 777-200 and 767-300s during the first half of 2014.
American’s also got a new pimped out A319 but unfortunately it has just half the first class seat of the aircraft its meant to replace — a very tough upgrade.
I am very very interested in these new A321s that will be flying cross-country.
- They are three cabin aircraft, American will be the only major airline flying both first and business class between JFK and LA/San Francisco). (They’re actually four cabin aircraft in some sense as they are equipped with Main Cabin Extra additional legroom seats as well.)
- By January 15 there will be 5 flights a day with the new plane.
- You can identify which flights are scheduled for the new plane by the equipment listing “32B”in the schedule.
The product really does need a refresh, as the old 767s on the route are quite antiquated and behind the competition. I’ll reserve judgment until I fly the new bird, but it could be the best product on the route. (JetBlue of course will kinda sorta offer three-cabins, though American’s first class seats should be superior as they’ll be reverse herringbone design, albeit without “doors.”)
I first saw the renderings at the Global Business Travel Association meeting in 2012, but I admit I was somewhat distracted by something even more interesting at the time…
Here’s the offer:
Most fare classes qualify for a bonus. Only “O” and “Q” fares are ineligible.
The above bonus amounts are for roundtrip travel. But you actually earn half of the bonus for each one way flight, and you do not need to travel roundtrip.
Registration is required prior to travel (but not prior to purchase, to existing bookings qualify).
The bonus applies to the JFK-LAX (and reverse) flight segment, regardless of whether you originate or end your journey somewhere else. In other words, DC – JFK – Los Angeles qualifies and JFK – Los Angeles – San Francisco qualifies.
There’s no limit to the number of times you can earn the bonus.
