News and notes from around the interweb:
- British Airways devalues ‘pay with Avios’ option. Haven’t they done enough to kill this program yet?
- The Daily Mail more or less rewrites an August Bloomberg piece which walks you through my upgrade advice.
- Sabre fixed a glitch that had prevented Southwest, JetBlue, and Virgin America customers from making or modifying reservations.
- Save 30% on JetBlue tickets if you book by October 19. (HT: Jonathan W.)
- Alitalia hasn’t devalued their fantastic upgrade deals
- We know Samsung Galaxy Note 7s aren’t allowed on planes, what was new to me is this Samsung airport exchange and refund program (HT: Leonard B.)
Southwest has quietly matched JetBlue’s 30% off. Austin in particular has some amazing fares.
Speaking of Avios I was finding to very difficult to find JFK to TXL (through AirBerlin) on the BA website. I have a large number of Avios miles I would like to use on Iberia, Air Berlin or Air Lingus to avoid fuel surcharges. Do you recommend I use a booking award service to find business class availability to one of those cities? I am open to going to Berlin, Madrid, or Dublin from NY and looking for business class availability over Thanksgiving or the last 2 weeks of December. Is this a search you think I can do on my own or should I pay the $150 a ticket a service like AwardMagic charges?
The Brits are shutting down all of RT’s bank accounts. No doubt the Avios devaluation follows. Get on RT quick Gary!

Melissa, what does RT stand for? Can you explain your comment above? I don’t understand what you are saying.
RT is Russia Today, aka the Putin News Network.
