London City Airport Closed After Unexploded World War II Bomb Found

Flights are cancelled today out of close-in London City airport “after the discovery nearby of an unexploded World War II bomb..in the River Thames early Sunday during planned development work at the airport…”

The docks were a significant target for German bombing during World War II and “at least 20%” of the 20,000 tons of explosives dropped on the U.K. “are thought not to have detonated.”
