American is tight-fisted with award availability on its own flights. Getting to Europe with American miles is tough without coming out of pocket big money paying British Airways extortionate fuel surcharges. The other usual options are Iberia (pretty good business class availability for 2 passengers booked a year out most of the time) and air berlin (with the hope that the airline is still around by the time you travel).
However there’s another route that almost no one thinks about, because it’s flying an airline that’s a partner but not a member of oneworld and availability isn’t shown on the AA.com website.

During last week’s American Airlines earnings call (transcript) analyst Joseph DeNardi from Stifel asked about the economics of American’s credit card deals. American’s CEO Doug Parker appeared to answer incorrectly.

Earlier today I wrote about the Hyatt-MGM status match. Since MGM lets you give your status to someone you live with at the same address, you should be able to match your status to MGM, give MGM status to a spouse, and then have them match their MGM status to Hyatt.
But what if everyone that’s a Platinum today could use this to give themselves Explorist status in March?

You may be able to save hundreds of dollars on a one-way fare buying an itinerary that connects in the city you actually want to travel to, and never taking the flight beyond that city to the final destination on the ticket.

Non-stop flights between New York and Spain on Delta partner Air Europa are pricing out at less than $300 in May.
This is actually a $7 base fare in each direction, indicating pretty strongly that transatlantic fares simply do not get much lower than this.
Miami non-stops are available for just a few dollars more.

On this morning’s earnings call American Airlines shared that their “Boeing 777-200 retrofit [project will be] complete in Q2.”
Those are the last international widebodies that still have angled seats, but they’re months away from finally all offering lie flat seats with direct aisle access.

Flight attendants and aircraft make great mules. They’re traveling from one country to another and if you have access to them they may get less scrutiny entering a foreign country.
But if a passenger is going to be the mule, they’re the dumbest drug runner in history if the plan is to get off the plane and leave their stuff in the restroom for someone else to pick up. It helps a little bit if the someone else is a border officer.
