‘Reject Fascism’ Shows Up in Official Aviation Weather Data—Pilots Outraged [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • ‘Reject fascism’ shouldn’t be in the weather report, just as the whole ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ thing was a bad idea a few years ago.

This appears to have consumed the time of the Secretary of Transportation.

  • The irony is that thanks to the Chase Reserve’s $75,000 spend threshold benefit, I’ve got Southwest Airlines status again plus $500 to spend with Southwest via Chase Travel, and I’ve got a two-month promotion Companion Pass from Southwest travel I needed to do anyway. I am trying not to fly them! But wiht 41% of the departing seats from my local airport all signs point to having to do just that!

  • How do people think this is o.k.?

  • What a great response by the controller to this pilot bully, just asking him to repeat himself, “Disregard.”

  • Aeroplan points will start expiring again starting November 30, 2026. That’s actually another year’s extension of their pandemic-era pause on expiring points. Last year they announced points would start expiring again at the end of the month this year.

Many U.S. programs have gone to non-expiring points. American hasn’t but you can keep your points from expiring by redeeming an award ticket that you cancel later for no fee. I wonder what the accounting juice from expiration is buying Air Canada at this point and whether or not it’s worth it, though honestly I’ve never been fully convinced of the logic of no points expiration (preferring to invest program spend in active members rather than inactive ones).

  • Southwest now interlines with Philippine Airlines and that’s good as far as it goes, they should make it easy for Philippine Airlines customers to buy their tickets and they should sell tickets to their customers that connect onto other airlines.

If they’d actually introduce a mileage earn and burn relationship, though, that would really drive the value to collecting their points. And while Philippine Airlines doesn’t have the best product, they do offer really good long haul business class award availability that’s largely unaccessed… Though Alaska of course has partnered with PAL as well.

  1. While I understand the need to keep politics out of stuff like this, I didn’t see that this was directed at one person/party or the other. Is KC-10 Driver pro-fascist? Is the Secretary of Transportation pro-fascist? Why would the object to that remark?

  2. @ vasukiv — Obviously, the Secretary of Transportation is pro-fascism, as pro-facsism = pro-Trump.

  3. I’m hardly a fan of fascism but there are places to express your beliefs and a weather report ain’t one of them. Save the political spiel for family gatherings.

I mean what’s really wrong with Make America Great Again. Don’t you want America to be great? See?

  5. Geek today we have a plane crash with fatalities, massive delays and 3-hour TSA lines due to the shutdown. And Gary doesn’t consider any of these stories among the most important? I check in here every now and then to see if there’s more here than card pumping, clickbait social media highlights, and one commenter who considers this his personal Twitter feed. I figured today might be one of those days with actual thought leadership. Guess I was wrong.

  6. “‘Reject fascism’ shouldn’t be in the weather report, just as the whole ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ thing was a bad idea a few years ago.” Fair is fair. Well said, Gary.

@Texan@heart — Woah. Gary’s posted on ample stories like that, but he doesn’t have to. And, you’re welcome post as little or as much as you wish. Thot leader…

  7. Remarkable the country that turned the slave trade into a literal factory and business, the country that butchered 60-90 million native Americans in a short period of time … only 250k survived talks about racism. When you are the problem you are never the solution. As a minority in this country you would be best to simply move along and stop pretending that you are not exactly what you rail against. It simply doesn’t work that way.
